Obama " I will fundamentally transform America" 2008 election. Now, what does that mean ? It means changing the USA to a Socialist Country. How? First by "Redistributing the wealth". Money is power, and the new King knows this very well. Obamacare will begin a Massive redistribution of America wealth. How? By mandate, it is forcing you to pay for things for other people against your will. Really ? Yes indeed, With Obamacare you lose free choice to pick a health policy that fits "your" needs and your budget. The govt. tells you what you MUST buy, or you get fined. Does that sound like American values ? No. It surely isn't. The Govt. has become a dictator to the American people. That is really what is going on here. If Socialism is what you want, support Obamacare. But if you want to keep America a free capitalist country contact Your Representative Now! And speak your mind with conviction and knowledge. The stakes are Big here, Very big. America as we know it, IS at stake.

"With Obamacare you lose free choice to pick a health policy that fits "your" needs and your budget."
Actually that is exactly what you gain.
"The govt. tells you what you MUST buy, or you get fined."
No they don't. If you have insurance already then guess what, nothing happens. If you don't have insurance then you can buy insurance through the exchanges from many different private insurance companies, which offer many different plans and levels of coverage.
"The Govt. has become a dictator to the American people."
Tell that to people who have actually suffered under a dictatorship. Attempting to insure all of your fellow countrymen are insured is not dictatorial. Maintaining the position that no one should die or go broke because of a lack of money is simply being a good human being.
" If Socialism is what you want, support Obamacare."
The ACA is about as far away from socialism as you can get. It is a handout to private insurance companies. Quit throwing that word around as a bogeyman when you obviously have no clue what it means.
How is buying health insurance the same as forcing people to pay for things for other people against their will? True, insurance companies take your premiums and use them to pay for someone else's medical bills, but I really don't have a problem with that. It takes a conservative to be against helping someone else get well.
@1596524: Kavadh I, during his early reign. Carlos Hugo I, for those who regarded him as a king (namely, the subset of Carlists who were not too disgusted by his politics). Arguably most or all of the contemporary Scandinavian monarchs, depending on how you define "socialist."
Making America realize the world outside her borders isn't some wacky cartoon and that yearning for the 1950's in the 21st century is utterly ridiculous would be a fundamental change.
Also international politics isn't a one-way road nor man is any man an island, especially not in a culture that promotes aggressive financial and social climbing.
Two weeks or so ago I was watching Real Time with Bill Maher, who mentioned that a hip replacement was rather pricy. I looked up how much it actually cost and found prices between 11.000$ and 120.000$ (or rather a study suggesting such pricing). I was wondering how much a hip replacement cost here, in good new Germany and found 9.500, which should be around 13.000$. Of course such an operation would be covered under all insurances in Germany (in fact they are legally bound to do so). So, not only will you get the operation and "not" have to pay for it (that's what your insurance is for), but you'll simply have to pay the somewhere between 16.5% and 20% of your monthly income to do so. If your monthly income was 600$ - which is still quite poor - your health insurance would be around 100$ monthly. No further payment required. Let me spell that out for you: 1200 times more uninsured and being born in the wrong country (Over it would only cost you about 90 months (about 8 years) of what you would have paid into your insurance anyway). And now for the sweet spot: if you want too, you can get extra things. You'll just have to pay for them out of your own pocket. All freedoms granted, and your choice will not be infringed on.
That is of course Germany, if you're born in a country with single-payer healthcare (which is most of the time a country in which the state solution so heavily outperforms the private solution, that the private solution is really not an option) your healthcare cost will basically be prepaid with your taxes.
If that is the government taking over a healhcare system, maybe thats what governments ought to do - because it will be the cheaper way to do things. Free market and stuff, right?
You can call your representatives all day and all of the night, and it won't matter a damn. The legislation has passed both the House and the Senate, been signed by the POTUS and been judged good to go by the SCOTUS. WHAT THE HELL IS YOR REPRESENTATIVE GOING TO DO? Hold his or her breath until they turn blue?
Jeebus, what a moron!
"It means changing the USA to a Socialist Country"
No, just a more civilised one.
@Sangfroid. They just tried that. It didn't work.
We're already just about over with his first year in his second term. He better get started with that socialism thing. Heck, we couldn't even get socialized health care, so he's got quite a lot to do in such a short amount of time.
America? Socialist? Don't make me laugh.
Really we should be focusing more on the little things. You know that America is one of only a few countries that doesn't have any paid maternity leave, and the other ones are all island nations.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
