I don't have to know who wrote it [the gospel of Matthew] . It is Scripture because whoever wrote it was divinely inspired.

He is right about one thing: The Gospel of Matthew was written anonymously. It was not attributed to Matthew for several decades after it had been written. We do not know who really wrote it.
But we do know it was divinely inspired because it is in the bible. Plus, it is in the bible because it was divinely inspired. Makes sense right? Not to me either.
Guess what? Flavius Josephus edited it, and I think it was Pliny the Younger who actually wrote it. Then again, I think I read somewhere that Marcion had his hand in writting the Gospel of Luke. You fucking idiot, what makes it "divinely inspired"? You don't even know, do you? What in the unholy hell is so "divine" about that book? When I was a christian, I did a study. I wanted to go through the New Testament to see what contradictions I could find with the OT, and offer reasons why they weren't contradictions. What I did find, was that there are 7 reasons in the first two chapters of Matthew detailing, using the OT as the source, why Jesus couldn't be the Messiah. Seven reasons, in just the first two chapters. So, how "divine" is it now? Just open your eyes and look for yourself.
No one knows who wrote it. It was certainly not written during the time frame in which Jesus is claimed to have lived.
Before you can prove the "divine inspiration" for any written work, you'll have to prove the existence of the deity which you believe authored it. Good luck with that, because much smarter people than you have tried and failed.

"Then again, I think I read somewhere that Marcion had his hand in writting the Gospel of Luke."
Not exactly. Marcion was convinced that the god of the old testament and the god of Jesus were two different gods. For his bible, Marcion used 10 letters from Paul and the gospel of Luke (which he simply called "The Gospel of Truth). However, Marcion was convinced that the references in Luke to the OT were fraudulent, so he edited them out.
Marcion's was very popular, and that popularity may have spurned the compilation of the canonical New testament in response. It also demonstrates how the bible was manipulated in the past by people with an agenda. Of course, that doesn't go one now, right?
And because it was divinely inspired it is scripture, right?
I wonder if that dog will ever catch its own tail.
Confused?
