With all the anguish reported by homosexuals over their lifestyle, I think the humanitarian thing to do would be to cure them if this condition was, in fact, a curable medical condition that something like gene therapy would resolve. The tales of agony and woe by those afflicted with homosexuality are heartwrenching and I look forward to the day no one has to go through that. Since it's not a choice, it should be a very natural and healing process to feel those homosexual urges fade away and natural attactions to the opposite sex take their place. Anything we can do to minimize suffering is a good thing and a cure for homosexuality would do that. Best if we could test for it and correct it during the first three months of pregnancy. Homosexuality would then just disappear and so would all the issues surrounding it.

Because that's so much easier than you just not being an arsehole.
Actually if one were to invent a "straight drug", if it were possible for an easy medical intervention that provably made gay people straight (carefully avoiding the word "cure"; I don't wish to imply that homosexuality is a problem or requires curing), I wonder what would happen. Would people actually take it? Presumably in some countries they'd be required to. Would there be protests against such an intervention's existence? Hmmm. Interesting ponderable.
...there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
~Hamlet (Act 2, Scene 2)
Homosexuality is neither a choice, nor a disease. It was listed as a mental illness in the field of psychiatry for a long time, but is no longer considered one by any but fundy doctors who insist upon adhering to past standards of practice. It doesn't require a cure. The problem is not with the LGBT community. The problem lies primarily with religious zealots who seek to condemn or destroy anyone or anything that doesn't fit their myopic world view. If you actually dig into those heartwrenching 'tales of agony and woe', you'll find that at their core, they are all essentially caused not by homosexuality itself, but in how society perceives it. Christianity has been coloring perceptions of LGBT people and those of different faiths in an aggressively negative way for more than a millennia. Only changing the perceptions of the fanatically religious will change the experiences of LGBT people.
Too late to make a long story short: they don't need a cure - you do.
Here's a good idea Papa Bullshit: Maybe you should stop treating us like crap, so we don't feel anguish in the first place? Give us equal rights, stop beating us up and killing us, make life better for queer youth, etc.
Also, I think that we should find a cure for heterosexuality. Be able to detect it in the womb, and treat it, so everyone can lead gay, fabulous lives!
I actually agree, we need a cure for homosexuality... That all these closet case homophobes can take. It's driven by their own desire to be not-gay, and there would be no desire to be so if they were already not-gay. They want this cure for themselves. When they can get cock out of their every waking though, maybe they will stop bothering all of us gay people who like being who we are.
With all the anguish reported by Teabaggers over their deathstyle, I think the humanitarian thing to do would be to put them out of our misery. The tales of agony and woe by those afflicted with Teabaggery are fartwrenching (due to the lulz they create!) and I look forward to the day no one has to go through that. Since it is a choice , it should be a very natural and squealing process to feel those butthurt urges fade away and natural attactions to the same sex take the Armoured Closeted Gay Teabaggers' place. Anything we can do to increase suffering is a good thing and a cure for Teabaggery would do that. Best if we could test for it and correct it by compulsory sterilisation. Teabaggery would then just disappear and so would all their tissues surrounding them.
fixed
>:D
With all the anguish reported by homosexuals over their lifestyle,
The reason for their anguish is because of bigots such as yourself who want to "cure" them
"Well, obviously, if they suffer SO much from being punched in the face by me, the best thing to do would be for them to have a less punchable face!"
Nice logic there, champ. Does it come with a free copy of 1984, or did you think of that all by yourself?
Dear God... I admit I'm all in favour of gene therapy, hell I'm a flat-out transhumanist, but I also hold that is MUST always be that person's choice. You would deny people that choice. And as everyone else here has pointed out homosexuality is not some illness that needs curing and indeed most of them are happy with their life.
In short. Fuck you sir. Fuck you.
As plainly as can be said: homosexuals aren't reporting "anguish over their lifestyle": they like the lifestyle itself just fine. What they're reporting is anguish over the way those who are intolerant of that lifestyle treat them.
Can you see the difference?
Perhaps an example you'll find closer to home wil help. Christians all too frequently claim they're being persecuted, that a war on Christianity is goind on.
Should we interpret this as Christians reporting anguish over their Christian lifestyle? Should we attempt to 'cure them' of their Christianity to eliminate their suffering?
I just sprained my fucking BRAIN. This chode acknowledges that homosexuality is genetic, and therefore natural, then IMMEDIATELY turns around and implies that it's unnatural, and therefore needs to be treated. OW!
By force?
Not going to happen.
My DNA, my body, my choice.
I actually think it's likely if they were able to change sexual orientation and there was a free market for it eventually the most popular gene therapy would be towards bisexuality. Maybe some would opt for asexuality in order to have more focus and less distraction, but I can't see any practical reason why a person would want to be a monosexual if given the choice to choose their sexual orientation if you ignore social pressures. Bisexuality gets rid of the risk of someone being absolutely perfect for you but the wrong gender. Not only is bisexuality likely to become popular, but so is sapiosexuality which is a sexual preference for more intelligent people. Many people would alter their genes if it meant making themselves more likely to fall for people who are more intelligent.
Best if we could test for it and correct it during the first three months of pregnancy.
And what does "correct" mean in this sentence? It seems to me that this Christian's attachment to "playing God" is rather stronger than his opposition to abortion.

But THAAAT'S DIIIIFFWEEENT!!!!!
Confused?
