Didn't he tell Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac? Sure, he stopped him in time, but Abraham didn't know he would, and he was going to do it. Which must have made things pretty awkward between Abraham and Isaac later...
@Amanda: Awkward between Abraham and Isaac later...
What about between Abraham and Mrs. Abraham? (sorry can't think of her name now) It would be so over between my husband and I if he ever intentionally tried to or hurt one of our kids.
God told Abraham to murder Isaac...
That one group of ppl to kill those other people to take back Jerusalem...
I'm sure there's more but I can't remember.
By any chance, was your version of the Bible written by the charismatic leader of your compound in the middle of the Nevada desert? If not, you clearly haven't read it. If so, you really shouldn't drink the Kool-Aid.
where in the OT does God command murder?
God murdered people frequently, according to the legal definition of murder. But fundies make up their own alternative definition when it applies to God. When God kills someone, they always invent some bizarre reason that makes it, in their minds, "justifiable homicide". It may have been considered murder if done by a human; but by definition, it's never murder when God does it - even when He kills 42 little children for making fun of a bald person (2 Kings 2:24).

Not like her opinion was ever consulted on the matter either.
Oh well, women aren't worth much anyway. [/sarcasm]
i've read my bible...
No you haven't.
I’ll bet her thinking is that ‘murder is unlawful killing,’ while anything God does is driven by perfect knowledge, and he only kills or directs the killing of sinners. So it’s TECHNICALLY not murder, in her eyes.
What’s a bit of legalism between friends, eh?
However, i would submit that the rule about killing a rape victim if she didn’t cry out, that’s murder. Yes, you MIGHT actually be killing two consensual fornicators, but there’s no chance that EVERY victim was literally asking for it. So some percentage of those victims did not deserve to die.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
