My position on this is that since masturbation cannot be classified as a sin (with the obvious exceptions of lusting, using porn during the act, etc.) then it is something which can be glorifying to God. And we are commanded to glorify God in everything we do. The Bible also states that we are to rejoice in all things and give thanks in all things. Why should masturbation be any different? An attitude of praise to God for his wonderful gifts, for the pleasure He is allowing you to feel, and for the promise of an eventual fulfillment of your sexuality in marriage are all "safe" things to think about.

"[To a woman complaining about her spouse refusing sex]

The ultimatum that you propose seems pretty gentle to me. If I were in your shoes, alternative (b) would be a divorce. (Or is that what you meant by "move a bed roll elsewhere"?)

As I said in another post, sex is the center of a marriage. In fact, it is the reason for marriage. It is the only thing you do with your spouse that you can't (mustn't) do with anyone else. A spouse who refuses to have any sex at all has strayed from his marriage vows just as much as one who is an adulterer. He is just as unfaithful, although "faithless" might be a better word.

If marriage is a picture of Christ and the Church, then an adulterous spouse is like a Christian who becomes a Muslim. That's bad. A sexless spouse is like one who becomes an atheist. That's just as bad. Either way, they have strayed from the faith/marriage."

Once or twice a week is not excessive at all. Most guys masturbate around once a day (some more, some less). Again, as long as you are doing it within the boundaries God has set (no porn, etc.) and setting your mind to fulfill His glory, then you can't go wrong!!

[On masturbating with panties]

If you're unmarried, I don't see how you can masturbate without lust if you're using a piece of intimate apparel. That's just getting aroused for the sake of arousal rather than dealing with arousal as it happens. Certainly unwise and most likely (also certainly?) sinful.
