I was at a picnic today and some of my church friends invited their friends who weren't Christians, and I had noticed a young boy (couldn't have been more than 9 or 10) who was cussing like those were the only words in his vocabulary and spitting on his sister whilst laughing. I tried to witness to him, but as I began to describe "hell" as a place where the wicked are punished, he got upset and scared and went his way. Don't get me wrong...I first told Him about how God loves him and sent His Son into this world to die for us, but as I began to describe the consequences of sin - he hated it. What did I do wrong?

You didn't hold on tight enough and let him get away. In future, always maintain a vice-like grip on the upper arm of all children you are trying to terrorize, and practise putting really malicious venom into your lurid descriptions of how he'll be tortured for all eternity any day soon.
You'll never get your fundie merit badge if you don't try harder.
(Okay, that's all the stupid I can take in one day; I'm going home to watch Cosmos !)
Actually sounds like you have a major harvest coming faithful Christian.
See, Little sinner boy will go home crying to his Big sinner parents. Parents will then be FORCED to reveal the TRUTH they've been hiding from sinner boy about God and that their collective EVIL can no longer run unchecked. Undoubtedly, the three of them will fall to their knees thanking God that he sent YOU to scare - save them all from eternal damnation. The parents- now equally righteous as yourself, will begin to vanquish all other sinner children from their subdivision following your faithful example. With a harvest of believers being credited to your celestial downline. Well done good and faithful servant!
Are you really that dumb? Kids don't need to know about Hell; they're children, they shouldn't be forced to live in fear of Hell because some stupid insensitive Fundies told them if they don't eat their peas or be completely obedient they'll burn in teh Hellz0rz!!111oneone
Seriously, let them be children.
TbT because she likely made that part up.
Chances are there's SEVERE exaggeration there, meaning the kid said one thing that may have been "offensive", and was verbally (and if some crazy stranger tried picking up my kid, or worse yet, hitting him or her, I would stab her first, and THEN call the cops on that child-abusing bitch) assaulted by some insane, likely loudly screaming and spittle-spewing person he doesn't know too well if at all.
What did you do wrong? WHAT DID YOU DO WRONG?? You tried to shove your moronic beliefs on someone elses child and probably terrified the poor kid in the process. If that was my lad I'd of kicked your sorry ass and told you to fuck off and take your fucking witnessing with you, you self righteous turd.
If that was my kid I'd have had you arrested for child abuse. Seriously, you terrorized a fucking ten year old with fire and brimstone, when you should've just given him a stern talking-to and told his parents. Please, don't reproduce, don't adopt, and don't go into daycare, teaching, or child services.
What you did wrong was shoving your religious beliefs down the throat of a kid who is not yours. Hey, I also hate it when people allow their kids to act badly in public, but it's not your place to discipline them- especially not with religion.
A simple "please don't curse in front of me and my family" would've been reasonable. Or you could've gone and alerted the kid's parents that he was picking on his sister and his behavior was upsetting everyone. OR you could've picked up your stuff and moved to an area away from the rude kid!
Incidentally, I think that anyone who scares a little kid by telling them they will go to Hell is a cruel, evil person. Most children will believe what an adult tells them- even if they don't know the adult. Which will result in one extremely stressed, frightened child, who thinks he is going to suffer for eternity every time he makes a mistake or acts naughty. No kid, even a bad or mean one, deserves that! What kind of awful person would do such a thing >:(
Confused?
