Arbery thereupon attacked Travis, the foremost McMichael—a seriously dumb thing to do, as McMichael was pointing a shotgun at him. The result, as mathematicians say, followed.
So this was Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown all over again. A few words of life advice from white America to black America: We understand how much you hate us, but for the sake of your own actuarial prospects, please try to restrain yourself from attacking us WHEN WE ARE POINTING A LOADED GUN AT YOU. You're welcome.
So the question hanging over the Arbery trial is: Can it be kept within the narrative, the narrative of mean, ignorant, gap-toothed rednecks hunting blacks for sport? If it can, then it's just a show trial, run by the Goodwhite establishment to terrorize and humiliate Badwhites.

It's called fight or flight. He had tried running from the fuckheads who were chasing him unprovoked and were threatening him. Based on all that, can imagine he thought they were going to harm him.
Maybe... maaaaybe don't chase people down for no reason and threaten them? Stip doing that before you blame people for fighting back with a gun drawn on them.
White people also hate having guns pointed at them. My father had a nervous breakdown, he was talking to the people on television. I remember him talking to Shaun Cassidy. He was also saying strange things, like “the big bad wolf is here.”
Our elderly neighbor was frightened, so she called one of her sons. Dad went outside, then ran in screaming. The neighbor’s son stood on the back porch of his mother’s house and pointed a rifle at him. Another neighbor, who was a psychologist, came over to calm him, convincing him to go to the hospital.
If the neighbors were scared, they should have called emergency. Although this could have the police shooting my father. Oh, my family is white and the neighbors were white.
Amazing how you can “defend” yourself by piling into a truck chasing a man down the street because he was person number three to check out a house under construction and hold him at gunpoint. But then if that same man upon seeing imminent harm makes any attempt to not die that’s an “attack” on the gunmen. This includes taking cover, running in the opposite direction, or attempting to appeal to basic reason.
But you take this a step even further: Do not “attack” me when I am suddenly threatening to kill you. How much more fucking blatant do you get? What is wrong with your brain that you don’t see a problem with that statement?
Reminds me of a joke caption about how Confederates try to mentally rework the American civil war: All return fire will be construed as an act of aggression.

Yup, there was even a famous police shooting where that actually happened, caught on a phone camera and everything… yet I think the cop still “walked” because the jury was either really bigoted or really stupid.
I also think cops kept on “walking” because defense lawyers have a knack for spinning something to make the officer in the right and many don’t want to believe that the police, a profession they hold in high regard akin to EMTs and Firefighters, would be full of fashy bigoted goons. Plus, the SCOTUS set the burden of proof bar ludicrously high.
After all, they wouldn’t feel safe, otherwise, these people are supposed to be heroic figures who “serve & protect” the populace. “Who is watching the Watchmen?” indeed!

Yes, he did. He was bi-polar. He went though another bad period when my mother developed a brain tumor. It was difficult to see her deteriorate physically and mentally. Dad would only sleep two or three hours a night and he worked manically during the day. He tried to take care of Mom, but he put her in a nursing home, a good one. He did recover.
He later participated in church activities and he bowled. He went on a tour of Germany, something he wanted to do for years.
Thanks for asking.

Are you talking about the one in Florida, where an autistic man had a breakdown in a parking lot, the police showed up and pointed guns at him, the man’s counselor tried to calm the man and the police … so the police shot the counselor in the leg while the autistic man was still in the middle of his breakdown?
the narrative of mean, ignorant, gap-toothed rednecks hunting blacks for sport
Well, it could also be mean ignorant, gap-toothed rednecks white racists wishing that one night a year, hunting black non-whites for sport is legal.

What in the actual f*ck? When did that happen? I really want to know, as that’s the first time I heard of that.
Man, this makes me even more glad I don’t live in America!
@KZadBhat #117352
No, it’s a more famous case. I’m picturing a park scene, where the young man is running away and the cop shoots him in the back.
Also, for the cops in the case you’re mentioning, all I can say is WHAT A DICK MOVE! What the hell was up with those cops? A person is doing their job and calming a guy down and those jackholes shoot them in the leg for no reason! It’s like they want things to escalate so they have an excuse to shoot the guy having a meltdown!
Subhumans like those cop hate anything nurturing, therapeutic or rehabilitative. They feel all people are scum, some people deserve to die and that mercy and de-escalating conflict is for wimps and weaklings.
It’s time for the DOJ to do something about that new-fangled “Warrior Cop” B.S. being taught in police academies!
These awful cop stories made me think about this Cracked piece on how a county cop was hired:it pretty much involved having random folks keeping the order under very corrupt sheriffs.
Fuck, at the sych eval, when testing for violence, did they take those who failed this part?
As for the OP, maybe he think every Black is a criminal and that, consequently, killing them is always self-defence.

Like this Ky. officer using Mein Kampf as course material.

My dad died in 2010. He had an operation for an aneurysm which had grown too large. He started bleeding internally after the operation and he died. My three brothers, my dad’s younger sister, her daughter and the minister were there when he died. The following Sunday, the minister placed a rose on my dad’s usual spot on the pew.

Charles Kinsey, 2017, in Florida.
@SpukiKitty02 #117423
As bad as you think the shooting of behavioral therapist Charles Kinsey was… well it’s actually even worse than you think. His patient wasn’t even having a “meltdown” or any sort of tantrum, he was playing with a toy truck in the middle of the road after ditching his therapy group and Kinsey was lying flat on his back with his hands raised trying to get his patient to do the same hoping that would convince the police to put their weapons down.
Florida police tried to downplay how senseless the shooting was by insisting the 911 call that brought them there described an armed man threatening suicide, though once anyone with eyeballs arrived common sense would tell them to reassess the situation. Youtube comments under most videos that show the incident are… well… best left undescribed unless you’re looking for motivation to become a super villain.
