/There's a reason they say "ignorance is bliss!" It was nice back when it wasn't shoved in our kids' faces./
Yes, just like it was nice in the 1950's when interracial marriage wasn't shoved into kids' faces and blacks stayed at the back of the bus and "knew their place." *sarcasm*
Nobody is shoving anything into your face. Homosexuals being allowed to be who they are instead of being expected to hide it like a dirty little secret is not the same thing as shoving their sexuality into people's faces. I know people who are gay. At no point during my conversations with them do they shove their sexuality into my face or make out with each other in front of me. The mere fact of them being gay only comes up occasionally and usually just as a passing thought. Most of the time, we have conversations like NORMAL PEOPLE.
But, of course, to you, the mere idea of homosexuals actually existing and people acknowledging that fact is tantamount to "shoving it in our kids' faces." *sigh*
/My daughter had "one" for calculus at The University of Texas and I was visiting and sat in on her class one time./
"One?" Oh, how nice and sensitive of you. I guess you must have cheered on McCain when he referred to Obama as "that one." Because we all know that homosexuals are one faceless entity instead of a group of individuals. Instead of a group of PEOPLE, who have names and dreams and opinions and do not go by the name "one." Miserable bigot.
/Talk about being totally clueless- not only did I have not a clue about the math being taught, having studiously avoided as much math as possible in my own college career,/
Well, as much as I hate to admit it, I do sympathize here, because I loathe math as well.
/but now this he/she/it is up there teaching it./
*grinds teeth* Listen, you patronizing, condescending scumbag. Your daughter's teacher is a PERSON. He or she is a gay man or lesbian woman. The teacher's sexuality does not make him or her a hermaphrodite or a transsexual. And the fact that you even had the nerve to include "it" as one of the pronouns used to describe the teacher is beyond insulting. The teacher is not an animal. The teacher is not some rare specimen of beetle or an alien species that has yet to be classified.
/My daughter liked the person/
Praise the Lord! Hopefully, your daughter will turn out to be a better person than you.
/and thought it was a good teacher./
"It." IT. Do you realize that hardcore racists used to refer to black people as "it?" Or that dehumanization of people is one of the most frequent tactics used to justify slaughtering them? Homosexuals are not animals. They are human beings just like you and me. If you're going to persist in calling this teacher an "it" just because he or she is homosexual, then I have every right to refer to you as "it."
/Just stranger than hell to me, but it's a different world./
Yes, because heaven forbid your daughter learn anything from a homosexual teacher. Heaven forbid your daughter learn that homosexuals are normal human beings - NOT animals to be called "it." If you ever are stupid enough to call your daughter's teacher "it" right in front of her, I hope that she screams at you for being such an awful person and refuses to speak to you for a month.
