[Discussing Exoplanets]
Erin....you are just making words up now to sound intelligent. subjugate...officiousness? Perhaps studying the bible would serve you well and give you a true sense of intelligence.

If any words you fundies didn't know or understand weren't real words then the dictionary would be a pamphlet.
And the Bible just flat wouldn't exist. So I'm admittedly a bit torn on how to feel on this one.
Them there, whatchacallems, "Dickshuneries"?
Is EEEVULL shit, son. Thou shalt not edumacate yerself.
Subjugate and officiousness, two established words with clear definitions:
subjugate: bring under domination or control, especially by conquest
officiousness: intrusiveness: aggressiveness as evidenced by intruding; by advancing yourself or your ideas without invitation
Lauren, perhaps studying something other than the bible would serve you well and give you a true sense of intelligence.
So this Smith person doesn't understand some words. So, rather than look the words up in the dictionary, Smith automatically assumes the person using the words is lying or making them up.
This goes beyond stupid, into the special zone of, "I'm a moron and I'm proud."
"Perhaps studying the bible would serve you well and give you a true sense of intelligence."
This statement is quite telling. There is a difference between a sense of intelligence, and actually being intelligent.
I'm thinking your bible hasn't mentioned that.
Hey, I didn't know the word officiousness. However, I also didn't immediately declare it to be a made up word and call the person using it stupid. Instead I looked it up. No, not in the Bible, in a dictionary.
@ dionysus
I didn't know officiousness was a word, either. But yeah, if one has a "sense of intelligence", one looks things up before speaking.
Books wif werds is-uh hard!
Specially those really pacific words y'all youse like dem dar werds like "thu" n' stuff!
I done-did looked em up but they waddn't in da Bible so they'z not real werds n stuff!
Erin: "No, not Exhaustplanets! EXOplanets! Planets outside our solar system!!"
Lauren: "Oh, now you're just making shit up again! Like your story that 'What Does The Fox Say' doesn't refer to Fox News!"
Erin: "It doesn't! It refers the fox, the animal!"
Lauren: "There's no such thing! Perhaps studying the bible would serve you well and give you a true sense of intelligence."
@Thinking Allowed
Webster wept.
Subjugate was that huge subju scandal, right?
The thing that always makes me wonder whenever i read this kinda stuff is the word 'Study'.
Like, really?
Once you skip the smiting, begatting and bits you don't want to follow, there's not much left.
And lets face it, going to church to have someone read an insanely short bite-size morsel of what's left and then telling you what it might mean (bigotry and political leaning permitting) isn't exactly studying. Oh, and doing this one a week, for appearances sake.
Somewhere in all of this, though how long it takes i have no idea, the sermon-listeners become intellectual giants, capable of judgement/opinion on even the most specific of topics.
'studying' the bible, though, will not give you anything close to 'true', 'sense', or 'intelligence'.

Saying 'I don't know' is the beginning of wisdom . But when the supposedly 'Omniscient ' God claimed in his literal 'Word of God' that the above was the model of the entire universe, then I guess that on that day in 1957 - via Atheist Soviet science - it wasn't just the sound of that Vostok-1 vehicle's engines reverberating around the world, ending up at America; nor the fear generated by such, and not merely by what it - Sputnik-1 - represented, as the potential militarisation of space itself...!
No. So many Bible-studying literalist Christians in the US had, at a single stroke, their membrane-thin 'faith' questioned, and proved wrong , thus they had no choice but to go on their ongoing quest: to continually move goalposts, re. Reality .
Voyager-1 has left our solar system. In time, it will pass Exoplanets. A deep space probe, created as the result of intelligent people. NASA/JPL - especially the highly educated Ph.Ds & Professors there - would like a word with you, Lauren.
How about these verses from the Bible, Lauren?
"Now you are proposing to subjugate for yourselves the people of Judah and Jerusalem for male and female slaves." (2 Chronicles 28:10)
"he receives no service from their officiousness : he is self-sufficient: it is he that gives to all their life and breath and every thing they have." (Acts 17:25)
Seems you don't study the Bible much yourself.
Erin is making up words that are already in the dictionary? Well done, Erin!
Perhaps studying something OTHER than the Bible would serve you well, Lauren, and give you a reality-based sense of intelligence.
Confused?
