boys don't sit quietly accepting a list of things for them to memorize like girls do. They will challenge you as to "why"...why do we have to learn this, why is this important, why is it true, etc. Boys are active learners. They don't want to be told something, they want it demonstrated to them. They want the arguments that lead to a conclusion, not just to memorize conclusion after conclusion. They take risks, they question, they dissect, they evaluate. Women just sit calmly and absorb what they are told.
That is just one way. The inclusion of bias, sexist, second-rate female writers who are hostile to boys are included along with the great writers in history for the sake of being PC. Is another way.
There is no active learning because girls can't follow it and female teachers can't deliver it. 90% of the learning disabilities today are from boys. Boys didn't just become learning disabled all of a sudden. Women just don't know how to teach boys anymore. They try to teach them like they teach the girls and boys aren't interested in that. Boys want movement, demonstrations, pictures, stories, they want to question, they want to challenge, etc. They don't learn from sitting quietly and memorizing whatever they are given.

Your claims would have a lot more support if you prefaced them with "as an educational psychologist, my research has shown..." or "as I tell the future teachers in my College of Education...."
Otherwise it's just outdated sexual stereotyping.
And how would you know any of this, Darin? You clearly never went to school.
Shut your trap & go back to watching fucking Duck Dynasty.
"sexist, second-rate female writers who are hostile to boys are included along with the great writers in history for the sake of being PC"
...as opposed to those female authors who use OSX, for the sake of being Macs .
[/hyper-smartarse] X3
...oh, and 'female writers who are hostile to boys', you say? JK Rowling. And the other extreme? The British Stan Lee, Alan Moore, whose "The Ballad of Halo Jones " (along with the distinctive art of Ian Gibson) has been lauded not only by other comic writers/artists, but also by feminist authors/critics et al. Your argument is invalid.
Clearly you need to go back to school.
Wait, you won't, because they've been 'feminised'
This guy clearly hasn't met my niece or my goddaughter...
"The inclusion of bias, sexist, second-rate female writers who are hostile to boys are included along with the great writers in history for the sake of being PC. Is another way."
Maybe if you had actually sat and memorized the rules of the English language you wouldn't have excreted this syntaxing abortion of a sentence.
I'd go all "Show me on the do... er, action figure where the mean woman touched you", but I suspect that the root of Darin's problem is that no self-respecting woman would touch him with a ten-foot pole and a hazmat suit, except maybe to beat him up .
There is no active learning because girls can't follow it and female teachers can't deliver it.
Active learning is what institutions of higher education provide; it's about questioning, challenging, learning not to be spoonfed but rather to think for yourself. You don't get to be a professor without a PhD, which certifies that you are capable of active learning. There are a whole slew of disciplines in which most PhDs are now earned by women. It doesn't sound to me as if you ever went to college, Darin88.
I have been a teacher (and still occasionally act as a replacement) and you are a massive idiot. That nonsense is just internet BS.
The only time boys act out is when they hit puberty and use that kind of behavior as attention seeking devices. As soon as they pass through the hormonal stage, they are no better or worse behaved then females.
As a guy and still in school, I can confirm that this is absolutely false. I'm assuming you were teaching a class of 1st graders or something.
I like how you're all saying 'Citation needed', but the idiot did give a (bullshit) link to back him up. I usually check the source for these things.
My intensely-curious, constantly-questioning, mildly-dyslexic daughter has a few choice words for you.
(Even if some of them are misspelled.)
"Women just sit calmly and absorb what they are told."
You should tell this to any girlfriend I've ever had or any friend of mine who is female, they would get a serious laugh out of it.
boys don't sit quietly accepting a list of things for them to memorize like girls do
Yeah, like what guy would sit around memorizing stupid stuff like the season record for triples or the Cowboys' final score in Superbowl XXVII? [/sarcasm]
That's interesting. I take it you're advocating the return to a more rigorous education for youngsters. Girls can once again learn how to darn socks and study the delicate art of sandwich making, they also need to know how to roll with a punch for when their future husband corrects them.
Boys, on the other hand, should learn the correct method to take a canon ball in the guts by adopting the proper stance for receiving the shot and by falling down dead in a dignified manner, or, in some instances, just disintegrating as masculinely as possible. They should also study the lost art of rod making for when they need to correct their future wife.
Once upon a time boys memorized. Poetry, multiplication tables, history dates, Shakespeare, the Gettysburg Address. And we read authors like Jane Austen, too. The shame! The shame!
Then again, one out of every four is just stupid.
If active learning is so great, how come test scores improve every time direct instruction is used?
I can see that you have never stood in front of a class of teenagers for at least 20 years.
Girls sit meekly in class and just absorb information? I can tell you some of the most aggressive and disruptive students I have taught have been female.
From what I remember, girls calmly ask questions and argue with the teacher, boys hit each other and disturb the class. (Very stereotypical, of course; there were girls who disturbed and boys who calmly argued, as well.)Girls are TAUGHT from an early age to be calm and quiet, boys are allowed more leniency. Boys can also be TAUGHT to be calm and quiet.
Women often have to be twice as good as men to be seen as half as good. So no, the female writers are not second-rate, they are premium-rate, as they have not just worked hard at the writing, but against people's perception and prejudices as well.
Marie Curie.
Argument invalidated.
Funny - in all my years at school I can only remember one kid who ever spoke up regularly and tried (in vain, mostly) to get the teachers to tell us "why". He apologized in my yearbook, and I assume others, for having been such a loudmouth and interrupting the classes. He was my hero for it and I told him so. Nonetheless, he also apologized to all of us again at our 20 year reunion. I wonder what those teachers did to his brain, after school, in detention.
Once in a while a kid would try to get actual explanations but was quickly put into place by Teach. That's how it went in my schools (public). We were all, boys and girls, to sit quietly and absorb. The system wants consumers, not rocket surgeons.
I work in a large, public high school. You're full of sh*t. Arrogant, a$$holy, stupid, insulting and wrong. Did I mention you're full of sh*t?
to a jackass, their own failings are virtues, and their virtues are virtues. there's nothing to stop a person from both thinking critically and being able to listen and recall what was said to them. if you have trouble with one of those things, it is a failing of yours, not a virtue.
now, as for your claim that girls are like this and boys are like that, i agree with everyone else, citation needed.
I taught Mathematics in college for 8 years. You are totally mistaken. Overall, girls worked harder, asked more and better questions, and got better grades than boys. Not much, but slightly. This is from 8 years of personal experience. How many years have YOU spent actually teaching at the college level?
But... I like Hercule Poirot (Written by a female) way more than Sherlock (Written by a male). Perhaps because your idea about writers is completely stupid and misguided. Most writers were male due to sexism than lack of skill.
I dunno, most men and women in the classes have been disruptive and bored. You tend to ask questions and participate when you're interested, nothing to do with sex.
Actually, as an educator, I have seen this comuna. For years, it has been argued that girls get better grades, on average, than boys. As usual, since it has smashed the myth of the male intelectual superiority, they have to look for all kind of convoluted explanations. What would have happened if boys got the same grades or better grades than girls?
Confused?
