"I never questioned the efficacy or intelligence of doing vaccines until I was in the hospital with my newborn daughter and a doctor tried to get me to give her hepatitis B vaccine...Hepatitis B is a sexually transmitted disease. I knew I didn't have hepatitis B. I knew my husband didn't have it. I knew there was no way she would come in contact with anyone with hepatitis B.

Hep B has other modes of transmission. Your kid could get it through absolutely no fault of her own. While this vaccine is one I can see refusing based on the information, please don't rethink the whole concept because you have your facts on -one- disease crooked.
And what the hell does the last line mean?
Uh, it's supposed to PROTECT her, JUST IN CASE.
And, HepB (like it's cousin, HepC) isn't so much spread through sexual contact, as it is through blood-to-blood contact with an infected person. (Used to be fairly prolific in blood transfusions, like HIV was, but now is mostly limited to intravenous drug use <sharing needles>, or mum is infected, and the ZEF is exposed and infected before birth.)
Your frog-child needs the vaccine for when her kindergarten class beats her up, thinking she's a monster, and one of them cuts his/her knuckles on her teeth (if she has any), thus infecting her with an entirely preventable disease.
...
May I recommend home-schooling?
truth is, this isn't that bad. it would be responsible to vaccinate her in 10-13 years for Hep B... but my guess is this mother already homeschools, and if she decides that the vaccine is unnecessary at this time I'd not fault her.
So you're saying she'll be a virgin forever?
Controlling parents much...i'd say this is why marriage is in the shitter, because you nuts force people to take someone, not allow them to love someone
Now I will say I refuse many vaccines for my children because I think they give them to them too young. Like when they wanted to give my six month old a vaccine for tetanus. Because at six months she's going to be running through fields of rusty nails all the time, right? I think it's ridiculous how early they insist on giving some of the vaccines, and I worked with my pediatrician to create a more appropriate schedule for my children, (like chicken pox closer to around 13 if they haven't picked it up by then). Now leaving children complete unvaccinated against everything for life I see as a serious problem.
Hep B has a bunch of other ways of transmitting, no sex required at all.
On a completely random note: I got my hep B shots in sixth grade and I was the worst patient ever for the poor Red Cross people there. Even with that little airgun thingy I whimpered and wept quietly like a child. I'm that bad with needles or needley things.
Huh! Speak for yourself. My babies weren't "frog-like". They were toad-like.
Although, I think that there is a period during foetal growth when it does appear frog-like. Which shows a relationship of some sort with distant amphibious ancestors. However, biology is not my strong point, so don't quote me.
Yes, I know I'm posting again, but I just thought of this. She's not vaccinating the child because it's a sexually transmitted disease, and neither she nor her husband have it. Is she only planning to vaccinate her from STDs that she or her husband might give her child? Is anyone else disturbed by the conclusions that can be drawn from this?
Well, that's all right then. Amphibians are generally not susceptible to mammalian diseases.
You can go back to your pond without fear. Just watch out for storks.
"frog-like". Is this why fundie don't believe in evolution - because they're going the other way?
And Hep-B isn't only sexually transmitted, idiot.
People being allowed to fuck with the herd immunity (doesn't apply to Hep B, I know) because they believe in a magical sky fairy is disgusting. And it actually happens in my country. >_<
So much for Children's Rights.
While I am of the opinion that babies are being immunized too early for many things, I do support vaccination. Having had chicken pox, I wouldn't wish it on any child (talk about misery!) - not to mention that having chicken pox makes you susceptible to shingles in later life, which is excruciatingly painful.
Something Mama here needs to reconsider is that Hepatitis B has been directly linked to the development of liver CANCER. Yeah, that sounds like fun, doesn't it? Not to mention that Hep B can be transmitted by non-sexual means.
Betcha she doesn't have her daughter vaccinated against human papilloma virus either, because her precious baby will never, ever fuck before marriage and will marry a man who is completely virginal as well.
Sheesh...
"Hepatitis B is a sexually transmitted disease. I knew I didn't have hepatitis B. I knew my husband didn't have it. I knew there was no way she would come in contact with anyone with hepatitis B."
Wait if it's only sexually transmitted (incorrect BTW) then WHY would it matter if you or your husband had it?! Are you PLANNING on molesting your daughter?
Maybe you don't have hepatitis. And maybe your husband doesn't either. And maybe he hasn't cheated on you (yet) with someone who does. And maybe your baby will never grow up and become sexually active. Hah!
BUT, how about that big amphibian you fooled around with in order to produce your frog-like baby. Hmmm?
Oh, I'm in love with a big blue frog, and my big blue frog loves me. Sorry, folks, that silly song just hopped ... I mean, popped into my head.
You igorant shit, how the fuck do you know who she'll come in contact with in her life?
Do you think you'll be in charge of everything she does and everyone around her?
I feel bad for the daughter. She's at risk now because her parents are stupid.
"Hepatitis B is a sexually transmitted disease."
OFFS. See, this is what happens when fundies don't educate people. They make shit up. Of course, the thought of your daughter ever having sex is probably worse to you than protecting her from catching a disease that has more than one way of transmitting.
"You have this tiny, frog-like baby, and they want to give her things to help keep her from becoming sick with something that could kill her."
There, fixed that for me.
Confused?
