They treat them differently because they are different. Marriage exists not because of sex, but because it is the best way to nurture our progeny to keep our nation strong.
Sex is involved only because that is how we procreate.
Homosexual activity, no matter the position you use, will NEVER result in the conception of a child. That makes it something outside the scope of why marriage even exists.
This is not a complex issue. They just want to make it so.

A gay bloke who fathers a child by making a sperm donation (like Rufus Wainwright for example) is no doubt thinking about other men while doing so, even is one isn't actually helping him along. So, there goes the third point.
Marriage exists because of ownership and inheritance. Neither sex nor procreation is dependent on a marriage certificate.
Heterosexual infertile activity, no matter the position you use, will NEVER result in the conception of a child, either. Does that mean that hubby and me ought to divorce?
This is not a complex issue. YOU just want to make it so.
So, wait, if marriage is purely about making babies, not about love or sex or commitment or anything else, then are you saying that infertile or crippled heterosexual people aren't allowed to get married?
Go fuck yourself.
And this is coming from a guy who thinks that marriage is an outdated ritual & contract originally meant purely for inheritance of wealth and power. I have no problems devoting my life to a single partner who I dearly love (if I finally find the one), but I don't see why marriage itself is necessary. Perhaps convenient, yes, but not necessary for a stable, loving relationship.
Marriage is what married people make from it. For me, it's building a family and taking care of you child(soon in plural form). But that's just me. For other people, it's something else.
IMHO, that's funydism in its simplest definition : those morons believe that their worldview is the only possible one. They want everyone of us to follow it. By force, preferably. Even I, who fits their "marriage" definition perfectly, finds their authoritarianism unbearable.
Some people want to build a gay couple? Or to practice exchangism? Or not to have children? Or to live whatever way is not mine? Why should I bother??? . Their freedom. My freedom.
@Glandu:

Hey, congrats!

Sir Elton John, David Furnish & their two sons.
The only ones making a complex issue out of this are the likes of you : your homophobia.
It's as if you want Tolerance to be legislated upon you.
Just accept LGBT people. It's a simple issue.
If marriage is only about producing children, every couple should be required to produce a certificate verifying pregnancy before the ceremony.
The best way to nurture progeny in marriage is with group marriage. That way, there could be multiple wage-earners in the household, as well as adults able to stay home to raise the children. If disaster strikes some of the adults, the family would still be able to continue, without forcing the children into living with relatives or the foster care system. The sleeping arrangements of the adults is, naturally, nobody's business but theirs.
This is not a complex issue. You just want to make it so.
Oh, and how about all the single mothers out there? They managed to procreate without the benefit of clergy or even putting a civil marriage ring on it. So you're the one who's making it a complex issue.
They're here, they're queer - and they can get married now, even over the rainbow in Oz. So I'll happily make you a bridge out of a couple of planks, so that you can GET OVER IT!
First to Glandu congrats!!!
Now to the OP, that is not how marriage works. People can get married if they want to and are consenting adults. You might want to learn how relationships work first.
Yes, hetero couples will get a tax break by being married, and then cost the community more by having to provide services to three people, four, five, six. . .
I think you have your priorities exactly backwards.
And that's why fertility tests are mandatory before receiving a marriage license, and those who fail to produce viable offspring within a suitable timeframe after the ceremony are sent to jail and their weddings annulled retroactiv- Oh, wait, no, that's not how it is at all, is it.
Confused?
