I was listening to the Hallelujah Chorus of Handel's Messiah recently and thinking about what atheists have as an equivalent. An equivalent? They don't have a Bible, they don't belong to a Church, they don't have a relationship with God, and they don't have their own music. That's because they have nothing to sing about. Without God, atheism would have no reason to exist.

You're absolutely right. Your point, being?

Well, that's debatable. While atheists don't necessarily have music specifically about atheism, one could argue that any song which doesn't mention or refer to religion could be considered "Atheist".

That's because they have nothing to sing about.

You obviously don't understand what music is really about, do you?

Without God, atheism would have no reason to exist.

Actually, without God (or any god in general), atheism would be the only thing that existed. Think about it.

@KR Given that bananas can only reproduce by cuttings, and not seed, I'd hardly see why they can call them perfect. Cultivation of them is about the only thing keeping bananas abundant (And even then, there are diseases that would quite readily wipe out entire cultivar strains, given the chance). For a perfect fruit, it's awfully genetically fragile.

And to the original topic? Absolutely right; Without God concepts, atheism would not need to be named. It's still the default human state, however. We don't need a Bible; We have the entire combined works of civilization. We don't need specific music; We have the entire combined works of civilization. We don't need a relationship with god. We have a relationship with the whole of civilization, not merely one flock.

Would you care for a sip of sacrament, to wash the emptiness down?
