I've come to the conclusion that the most hated man in history wasn't Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Napolean, any of the Ceasers, none of the despots that tortured the world throughout history.
The most hated man in history was Jesus of Nazareth.

Actually, I rather like Jesus. It's His dick-wad followers that drive me to drink.
To quote Ghandi:
"I rather like your Jesus. It's His followers that are a bunch of fuck-wads."
Okay, well Ghandi didn't say "fuck-wads", but I'm sure he thought it.
There was nothing wrong with Jesus or his teachings. In fact, I like his teachings a whole lot - for the most part.
Its just his shit-for-brains, rub Jesus in your face followers that bother me.
You are an idiot.
Even atheists admire his peaceful philosophy, akin to the way we admire the Buddha, even if he did occasionally go off the rails (not peace but a sword, that poor fig tree, temper tantrum in the temple, bring those that do not want me to rule over them and kill them etc), indicating that if he had lived much longer he may have degenerated into a Jones or Manson-style cult leader.
As Michael said, I happen to like Jesus. He was quite a guy. He stood up for those who were being oppressed by the Jewish pharisees. He taught us all to love each other, and to look past our own selfish desires, and generally be a better person.
However, it's his so-called followers, who are more concerned with what some book said than with what Jesus actually said and meant, that I have issues with.

The Greek Testament's account of the Phrarisees is one which leaves a lot to be desired, historically and sociologically. Paul's anti-Semitism (and lack of knowledge of the Judaism he rode on the back of) comes out there.

Got some links? Interested in reading the other side of the story, so to speak. However, if the Gospels stories bear any resemblance to what actually happened it would appear Jesus did try to fight for "those with no voice" so to speak.

OK. I admit it. I hate Jesus. He owes me a ton of money, tried to steal my girlfriend, and is always mooching cigarettes. He can never show up anywhere and just be chill--instead he has to remind everybody that he's the son of god all of the time. Jerk.
@Fernando
A-freakin'-men.
Eh, I don't hate Jesus. As far as I'm concerned, he really didn't even exist. I do hate you people, though. I hate how your bullshit is so widely accepted as "truth," and how that "truth" has lead to oppression, murder, genocide, etc.
Actually Jesus was pretty cool: Tolerant, turn the other cheek, Golden Rule.
Maybe if some of you theists could sort of get together a group of people who lived by his rules, like 'Jesusists' or something, the world would be a better place.
First of all, Napoleon and Caesar.
Second of all, no. Millions of people history over have loved Jesus with their hearts for one reason or another. Those other men you mention, however...
Jesus of Nazareth was known by, at most, a few hundred people in his own time. I'm sure plenty of them hated him, but that was hardly a big enough crowd to make him the "most hated man in history".
Actually, Jesus, be he real or not, was a cool guy who helped people. He told people to love thy neighbor and pray for your enemies. Everyone else you mentioned were horrible people who only killed and oppressed.
Guys, remember: For a christian fundie, the slightest criticism, even complete indifference towards their religion equals "Hate". For them, you only don't "hate" their christianity if you are a fundie like them. Everybody else "hates" them, according to their delusional persecution complex.
It's this infamous paranoid principle of "You are either with us, or against us". This is also the reason why they have such a huge problem with Atheism: They confuse Atheism with Anti-Christianity, and feel personally attacked.
Who hates Jesus of Nazareth? I don't know anyone who does, and I'm from secular, atheist, leftist Sweden, and know quite a few Muslims.
If he existed at all, he sounds like a rather cool guy.
We just don't believe in him, stupid! That's not hatred, that's indifference.
We do know that Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Napoleon existed. Many people alive today have witnessed the horrendous actions of Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. They can tell us about it, that's one reason why we hate them.
Tell me about it. I mean, here's Jesus who goes around saying that the rich are not inherently better than the poor, and that it is right for people to take care of each other when they are hurting. Then he gets killed by the religious and political authorities whom he is making look bad.
THEN his story gets re-written by guys like Paul and John. They manage to convince people that Jesus didn't care what people did as long as they worshiped him. Pretty soon the movement obtained political power, and people who disagree with the part line are being brutally tortured and murdered in the name of a man who promoted a philosophy of love and brotherhood.
THEN we come to the modern age. There are over 2 billion people in the world who call themselves followers of Jesus. Most of them are starving or otherwise deprived. A tiny portion hold more wealth than they can ever reasonably use, and insist that it is right for them to hold on to their wealth because Jesus has blessed them.
You are right witness. There are many MANY people in this world who hold Jesus in such contempt that they will use him name to justify their greed, selfishness and claims to petty power, despite the fact that these are the very things Jesus himself decried. Those people who hold Jesus in such contempt are popularly known as "Christians."
I like Jesus. I just don't like your splinter sect off of Protestantism. At least Protestantism likes the NRSV as well as the KJV. John never said that the removing/adding words thing was to the whole Bible- just to Revelation, which, quite honestly, I think Jesus would facepalm you for analyzing it to death like the song "Glass Onion".
Confused?
