why do all academics have an obsession with evidence and statistics? Don't quote that crap at me. I will stick to my own views.

Ah. The number one sign of a person against whom the evidence is arrayed. Give them a single shred of evidence that even merely appears to possibly favor something remotely similar to their myths, though, and suddenly they're all about evidence. It's the ultimate incarnation of that Aesop about sour grapes that they conveniently forget.
an obsession with evidence and statistics?
I own a herd of fifty pink unicorns.
What? You say "prove it!"? Fuck you! What's your obsession with evidence? I will stick to my own views - and my unicorns. The pink ones.
Ladies, Gentlemen, Gender fluid individuals, I give you UKIP.
Ignoring evidence and statistics because they require the slightest bit of honesty and reading comprehension.
This same party is so good at what they do, they made an anti-immigration pamphlet featuring a spitfire for British Pride... flown by an all Polish refugee squadron. A squadron that proved pivotal to the defense of Britain.
Wow UKIP, you make such as good case against yourself, nobody has to make any new arguments as to why you are the stupidest bunch of racist scum in the United Kingdom. Well done, you get first place in the "arguments against UKIP" awards.
Because fuck, nobody else can come up with a better reason none of you should hold office.
Who needs evidence when you have 'common sense?'
Common sense, in UKIP terms, seems to mean anything that springs into the mind of the ignoramuses that vote UKIP. When all opinions to the contrary are presented as attempts to silence them, through their belief that all opinions are equal, such bigoted nonsense is accepted as credible when put against the views of someone that has citations to back up their argument. In fact, any attempts to confront them over their disregard for evidence is seen as a campaign to oppress them. Hence why their politicians and councillors can spew drivel about foreigners and AIDS, as well as climate change being proven wrong by the recent solar eclipse, without any backlash from their indoctrinated supporters that would see any refutation from academics as the actions of the thought police.
@Yossarian Lives
In my opinion, "common sense" is grossly overrated.
Uh, wait. Lemme think there. I was almost going to say "common sense" means nothing.....but, no that ain't quite what I mean. I use the term when talking about things dealing with social situations. Like, oh, let's say, "it's common sense that people should treat each other with respect" or something like that.
But, if you're talking about things that deal with evidence, statistics....which, I guess would be science...."common sense" doesn't always apply. A LOT of things that have proven to be true just totally go against anything you could call "common sense". Or, in other words, they're counter-intuitive. Look at relativity, or even worse, quantum mechanics.
Excuse me, I'm rambling......lol
Why do all academics have an obsession with academics? Yeah, it's a mystery all right.
The only one spouting crap here is you, honey.
@King of Rhye:
Umm, I was mocking these UKIP types for their tendency to argue for 'common sense' solutions to problems in an appeal to the common man. That, and the belief that all opinions are equal regardless of the evidence backing them up and their definition of 'common sense' being conveniently aligned with their own ways of thinking.
It is often just a buzz word which helps people convince themselves that their arguments have worth over the other foolish, naive people who don't have the 'real life experiences' they do, especially if they are arguing against an academic or an expert in their field. It gives them an opportunity, in their mind, to give themselves a credible position to be able to argue against these so called experts who hole themselves away in offices, instead of engaging in real life situations like the common man. The mistrust of experts in favour of bombastic characters who present themselves as men of the people is a worry, and if I could have a pound every time someone says something along the lines of "these students may acquire a good education through university, but they lack the common sense of ordinary people" I'd be a rich man. I don't want to sound snobbish, I don't want to knock people who haven't been to university, as it's not for everyone and people can become highly skilled individuals in their own field of expertise, but the growing tendency to sneer at those trained in an academic discipline is wearisome. Maybe I'm arguing against human nature, as we all like to see ourselves as well rounded individuals with a good all round knowledge, but the attitude is arrogant and their dismissal of arguments from 'experts' going against their own opinions leaves the door open to politicians who exploit such cognitive biases through such rhetoric about common sense solutions and attempts to feed mistrust in economists, scientists, politicians who listen to these experts and others.
UKRAP's Nige FaRAGE thought this was a good idea:

In his own view. >:D
From Golden Oriole to bloodied brown trousered arse hole. And smoking so close to a crash site with the risk of leaking aviation fuel? Is that common sense, UKRAP?
But as your leader has already resigned, you've crashed & burned in more ways than one. And - via the High Court ruling in favour of Parliament - no 'Brexit' Soup for you! [/Nazi Nazi] >:D
Only one 767: Trump Farce One, Wiggy? Arnold Schwarzenegger owns several airliners he leases to airline companies.
That the best you can do, Nige: a rustbucket of an ancient single-engine that's not even a Cessna: least of all a British -made plane, naughty! I emphasise rustbucket: I refer you to the lower frame of the seat he was in.
"why do all academics have an obsession with evidence and statistics?"
I have a pet unicorn. No, I'm not going to prove it to you.
Confused?
