I see the Catholic Church is continuing its tradition of arguing itself into absolecence while acting like it's still a relevant authority, all the while thinking it's the moral standard by which everyone must live by, and simultaniously being a collection of monstrous dickbags.
Didn't the Pope say homosexuality was sort-of-ok? Or did he recant that already? I mean, again. And shouldn't you members of the hatierarchy, I mean, hierarchy, obey him? Cause he's the representative of your imaginary tyrant or something? Isn't going against what the Pope says a big sin or something?

This is fairly normal stuff in the eastern half of Europe. I've seen pretty much the same language from Orthodox clerics in Serbia and from the Lutheran Church in Latvia. Trouble is, in many countries in the region the church is regarded as the guardian of national identity and values. The result, most obvious in Russia, is an alliance between a backward, corrupt church and a morally bankrupt ruler.

I wouldn´t exactly say there is an alliance between church and ruler. The only reason this shit went throught is because currently ruling social democrat party needed to secure a coalition with christian democrats. The thing is, christian democrats have pathetic number of votes and could never hope to push this throught on their own. But thankfully, given the problems this is starting to cause them, they will probably call this shit off the moment it becomes serious.

Apologies, but looking back on my post I could have been a bit clearer as to what I meant in my last sentence. I meant that the result of viewing the church as the guardian of national identity and morality was the church-state alliance that exists in Russia, not that one exists elsewhere, though a few years ago you could have made that case in Serbia.
