But yoga enthusiasts have been warned by a leading Roman Catholic clergyman that they are in danger of being possessed by the Devil.
Father Jeremy Davies, exorcist for Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, the leader of Catholics in England and Wales, says that activities such as yoga, massage therapy,
reiki or even reading horoscopes could put people at risk from evil spirits.
In a new book, he also argues that people with promiscuous lifestyles could find themselves afflicted by demons.
And he says that the occult is closely linked to the scourges of ‘drugs, demonic music and pornography’ which are ‘destroying millions of young people in our time’.

'Catholic Truth'? Now there's an oxymoron...
PS - Yoga is cool, but when they start getting into CAM / New Age bullshit like Reiki, I think the question 'is the enemy of my enemy my friend?' has finally got a definitive (negative) answer...
PPS - '...exorcist for Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor...' Is this, perchance, an Irish person? This is an episode of Father Ted, right?
I guess I wondered when this would come up. I also read somewhere that a lady liked the philosophy of yoga, but was upset that they never mentioned Jesus in the meditations. So she changed everything around and offers Christian Yoga now. I'm sure it's much better now :)
I have been doing yoga for awhile, it's relaxing, healthy and a great stress reliever. The original meditions are really beautiful and peaceful. I love it.
Maybe Father Davies needs to take a deep breath . . .
That's hilarious. All the hard-core yoga enthusiasts I know smell like flowers and eat all organic and are extremely calm and loving and gentle... "drugs, demonic music and pornography" is the polar opposite of what yoga class was like at the YMCA, in fact. We listened to soothing flute music and stretched while the yoga instructor walked around spraying lavender air freshener.

Yeah, plus crying and pouting puts you at risk for getting no presents from Santa Claus, and if you step on a crack, you'll break your mother's back! Stay away from ladders and black cats, too.
@Brit-nontheist
Don't forget the knee-jerk uptake of absolutely any form of quackery, pseudo-science, vaccination denial, homophobia, misogyny (I could go on...)
The fact that *their* astrologer is so demonstrably better than those of the competition that he receives > £1M per annum speaks volumes about the readers' intelligence. I doubt they could spell 'neo-con'.
@Goosey - Bang on. They are not really fundy at all - they just cynically exploit absolutely anything will get them a buck. I bet you there's ads for Reiki etc on the next - or even opposing - page.
@Father Mick Potate O'Sobrian - I suspect that that is not your real name. You are clearly 'Peter O'Hanraha-hanrahan' from 'The Day To Day'.
Oh nooo! Catholic Church, you were doing so well! With that bit about life on other planets I thought you were at least pretending to be part of the 21st century. Now you're talking about Satanic possession, evil spirits and that darned rock music? I feel like i'm witnessing an alcoholic falling off the wagon.
@stoat100: I think the Daily Heil is the worst tabloid in the world.
Edit: For you Americans, Daily Mail is Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh fused to the New York Post.
I guess I'm demon-infested.
I dare to declare that I am a Witch.
I have practiced Yoga, and still do sometimes -- it's good for my joints. That reminds me, does anyone know of adapted Yoga for people with disabilities?
Massage therapy helped a lot with my muscle spasms.
Horoscopes... LOLwut?
Fuck it, it's the Daily Mail...
And he says that the occult is closely linked to the scourges of drugs, demonic music and pornography’ which are destroying millions of young people in our time’.
These are a few of my favorite things...come on, people, sing along!
Are you fucking kidding?
YOGA is a path to the devil?
Hell, I used to work with a girl who was a massage therapist. I better get on the horn with her and tell her Satan's out to get her.
And of course we've got the tired old shit saying that the devil thrives on sex, drugs and rock n' roll.
I've heard that Catholic priests are well versed in things that are "destroying millions of young people in our time."
Of course, unlike yoga practitioners, those young people had no choice.
"Father Jeremy Davies, exorcist for Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, the leader of Catholics in England and Wales, says that activities such as yoga, massage therapy,

I thought yoga was good exorcise.
;^D
But as for reiki or astrology, it just cracks me up to read of a religious "exorcist" condemning other woo beliefs. That's hilarious.

@ aaa If we are talking about the daily mail, I will also add that it is moronic, I quote “the people who get AIDS most, are prostitutes, drug addicts and GAY MEN“
Well ,,,it's not "demonic music" unless it's "closely linked to" the occult. And I'd love to see your list of "demonic music"
Confused?
