NAACP Calls for NFL Assistant Coach Jack del Rio to resign

NAACP President Derrick Johnson has called for Jack Del Rio assistant coach to the NFL’s Washington Commanders, to resign, per Yahoo! News. Del Rio previously apologized after making a comment comparing the Jan 6. insurrection to the protests following the killing of George Floyd, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Johnson said it’s time for Del Rio to resign or be terminated. “The January 6th insurrection – an attempted coup – was far from a ‘dust-up’ - Downplaying the insurrection by comparing it to nationwide protests, which were in response to a public lynching, is twisted,” he said in a statement.

Del Rio wondered why the Jan 6. insurrection was met with more criticism than the summer 2020 protests. He also claimed the damage during the riot was nothing compared to that of the protests.

More from Tampa Bay Times:

“People’s livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down, no problem,” Del Rio said. “And then we have a dust-up at the Capitol, nothing burned down, and we’re going to make that a major deal. I just think it’s kind of two standards.”

Amid backlash for his comments, Del Rio released a statement on Twitter Wednesday afternoon apologizing his word choice. Del Rio said it was “irresponsible and negligent” to call the riot a “dust-up.” But he said he stood by comments “condemning violence in communities across the country.”

Hamilton Police Department Chief Gene Allmond and officer John Brooks #racist #sexist theroot.com

The video footage of the vile conversation between Chief Gene Allmond and patrolman John Brooks was captured amid the Black Lives Matter protests that spread across the country last year and recently obtained by WTVM News.

It begins with the two cops talking about the virtues of shooting or tasing “niggers,” and then transitions into them talking about Bottoms’ political future and how she treats police officers accused of misconduct.

But, as is typical of racists who hate Black people, the cops reveal that their bigoted disdain is really powered by a creepy obsession because they immediately move to talking about which politically visible Black women in Georgia they would have sex with.

“If I had to fuck a nigger, I’d rather fuck the mayor [Keisha Lance Bottoms] than Stacey Abrams,” says the officer wearing the camera, to which the chief responds, “Yessir.”
[…]
They have a good laugh as Brooks’ reminisces about people in his family lineage who were slave owners, then the chief complains that Black people are no longer made to work for white people like in the good ole days.

“It seems to me like they furnished them a house to live in. They furnished them clothes to put on their back. They furnished them food to put on their table and all they had to do was fucking work. And now we give ‘em all those things and don’t have to fucking work,” Allmond says.

Apparently the two men thought the body camera wasn’t working at the time. City attorney Ron Iddins told WTVM that the six-minute long video was discovered after the device was checked for faults and was instead found to have a full memory of recordings.

Subject: Homophobia

I am a big fan of your work but I notice that you and The roots seem to have an agenda to promote gays and trannies as acceptable lifestyle. This is not a part of the black lives matter movement and lumping it all together does not work.

I am not homophobic because a phobia is a fear. I am not afraid of gay people but as a true Israelite I cannot condone the lifestyle. Do you think those gay white people care about us? We need to focus on our people amd stop pushing this liberal agenda.

Submitter’s note: I didn’t include Michael’s response because it is way too long but go check it out, it is awesome the way he handles this

East Middle School teachers #fundie theroot.com

Everybody is all about freedom of speech and expression until a black person (hey, Colin Kaepernick; hey, Jemele Hill) decides to exercise his or her right to do so. And in this particular case, a black sixth-grader out of Michigan says he was assaulted by his homeroom teacher all because he was exercising his rights and declined to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Stone Chaney, who attends East Middle School in Farmington Hills, Mich., told ClickOnDetroit that his teacher “violently” dragged him out of his chair and attempted to force him to stand for the pledge, leaving the young man confused and unwilling to return to that school.
consultant comes up behind me and snatches me out of my chair violently,” Stone told the news site. “I was so confused. I didn’t know what was going on.”

Note that Stone referred to the individual in question as the “teacher consultant.” That means that the person who allegedly thought it was all right to snatch a child out of his seat trains other teachers. One would wonder what kind of training those other teachers are receiving.

Except I can tell you exactly what, because Stone claims that the very next day after the initial incident, another teacher yelled at him for remaining seated during the pledge.

Stone is very adamant about not standing, saying that he does not pledge to a flag.

“I don’t stand because I don’t pledge to a flag,” the precocious child explained. “I pledge to God and family.”

Stone’s parents are still looking for answers as to how the incident, which occurred Sept. 7., could have unfolded the way it did. His father addressed the district directly at its last board meeting, defending his son’s right to do what he wishes when the pledge is being spoken.

“It’s his choice to sit,” Brian Chaney said. “I don’t make him sit. And they should respect that.”

The superintendent of Farmington Public Schools released a statement detailing that the district does support the right of students to opt out of the pledge, announcing that it was conducting an investigation and that the teacher involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome.

In the meantime, Stone and his family are looking into other options and will probably end up leaving the district, the news station notes.

Texas Teachers Disciplined After Giving ‘Most Likely to Become a Terrorist’ Award to 13-Year-Old Student

It seems as if a few Texas teachers need to go back to school to learn that a joke is supposed to be funny. However, in shockingly poor taste, some Channelview Independent School District teachers reportedly laughed during a mock awards ceremony as they handed out certificates, including one that dubbed a 13-year-old student “most likely to become a terrorist.”

“They just found it as a joke,” seventh-grader Lizeth Villanueva told KHOU.

Lizeth got the certificate earlier this week at Anthony Aguirre Junior High. She said that one teacher signed the certificates—which included superlatives like “most likely to cry for every little thing” and “most likely to become homeless”—while other teachers looked on and laughed.

“She said that some people might get offended, but she doesn’t really care about our feelings,” Lizeth said. “She was laughing about it.”

The award was given out just one day after the arena terrorist attack in Manchester, England.

“I was upset and very mad when I saw the award,” Lizeth’s mom, Ena Hernandez, told the Washington Post. “I was surprised because my daughter has been doing well in the honors program.”

According to the Post, the seventh-grader has been in the school’s honors program for two years and has never been a discipline problem.

“It doesn’t look good at all, especially coming from a teacher, a grown-up woman,” Hernandez added to KHOU. “It doesn’t look good because everything that’s going on right now.”

According to the news station, the principal of the school personally apologized during a meeting at the school. The district, however, declined to confirm the names of any of the teachers present, citing a “personnel matter.” The school released a statement saying that those involved have been disciplined according to district policy and that the incident was still under investigation:

“The Channelview ISD administration would like to apologize for the insensitive and offensive fake mock awards that were given to students in a classroom. Channelview ISD would like to assure all students, parents and community members that these award statements and ideals are not representative of the district’s vision, mission and educational goals for our students.”

Hernandez wants to see the teachers fired or else, she said, “they will continue doing the same thing.”

Meanwhile, Lizeth hasn’t been back to school because she “feels uncomfortable,” the Post reports.

Gardendale #racist theroot.com

A judge told a mostly white suburb near one of the blackest cities in the country that—after reviewing all of the facts—she believed the town’s request to separate itself was motivated by race. She stressed that the move could encourage feelings of racial inferiority among the district’s black students. The judge chastised the white citizens for trying to minimize school desegregation laws. Then, with a pound of her gavel, she allowed them to do it anyway.

Just north of Birmingham, Ala., sits the tiny suburb of Gardendale. While Birmingham’s 74 percent black population ranks it as America’s fourth-blackest city, Gardendale’s population is 88 percent white. Gardendale’s median family income is more than double that of Birmingham, too, giving the small town a lucrative tax base. In recent years, most of Birmingham’s affluent suburbs have left the struggling Jefferson County Schools’ system to form smaller districts, but until now, a judge had never examined the racial reasons and implications as closely, according to a report by the Washington Post.

U.S. District Judge Madeline Haikala heard the case of Jefferson County Board of Education v. Gardendale City Board of Education and issued an extensive, wide-ranging ruling Wednesday. The case was not overly complex and was mostly black vs. white. The white residents of Gardendale wanted to break away from the county’s schools, creating a new district that reflected the demographics of the city. The parents of black students in Gardendale’s schools said the white parents just wanted to get rid of the schools’ black students.

In her 190-page ruling, Haikala admitted that Gardendale City’s motivations were based on race and inequality. She pointed to a Facebook group with thinly veiled racist messages and wrote about flyers that listed “some of the best” white schools that had already left Jefferson County Schools alongside a list of “bad” racially mixed schools, with a white child asking, “Which one will you choose?” The report noted that the flyers delivered an “unambiguous message of inferiority.” The ruling reprimanded the parents for their continued reference to “Smithfield kids” (a reference to a mostly black section of Jefferson County whose children attend Gardendale schools) in a degrading manner.

The ruling extensively referenced desegregation cases and how they impacted her ruling. The judge explicitly admitted that race seemed to be Gardendale’s primary motivation, finding such to be worse than some of the desegregations of the civil rights era, writing:

"Given these findings, the Court would be within its discretion if it were simply to deny Gardendale’s motion to separate. Were it not for a number of practical considerations, the Court would do just that. As was the case in Stout II, though, some of the circumstances surrounding Gardendale’s attempt to separate are deplorable ..."

Deplorable. But even though she saw that Gardendale’s motives were based on the idea that the school district’s black students were inferior; even though she noted that it would set back the county’s desegregation efforts to make schools equal; and even though it would negatively impact the black students who already attend Gardendale schools, she allowed Gardendale to move forward anyway.

“It’s hard to square,” said Monique Lin-Luse, an NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund lawyer who represented black parents.

No one could figure it out. However, the Gardendale parents were ecstatic.

“We know that the community is anxious and ready to achieve its goal of a locally led public school system. We are, too,” said Chris Segroves, the new board’s president.

There are no quotes from the black students who will all have to attend new schools, knowing it is only because of the color of their skin.

Jason Kendall #racist theroot.com

Another day, another racist white guy attacking an innocent person for no reason other than existing. Earlier this week, officers arrested Jason Kendall, 52, for allegedly attacking a man working at a Middle Eastern restaurant with a pipe and telling his victim to “Go back to your country, terrorist,” according to court documents.

KOIN reports that the altercation occurred at Al-Aqsa Restaurant in Salem, Ore. The victim told investigators that Kendall was yelling and screaming, causing a disturbance in the restaurant. When the victim asked Kendall to leave, he initially did, before coming back five minutes later yelling, “Get out of America” and “Arab, you need to leave, asshole.”

Kendall allegedly threw a plastic item at the victim, hitting the victim in his head. The 52-year-old then attacked the victim with a pipe, hitting him over the head and leaving a small bump.

When he was being arrested, Kendall told the officer that he saw a “Saddam Hussein-looking guy” and that he believed a woman inside the restaurant was a slave. Kendall said that he went inside to tell the woman that she was “free to leave.” (Honestly, not sure how this could get any more racist, but then again, these racists can surprise you.)

Kendall said that he saw an “evil totem” with Arabic writing on it and that he threw the “totem” at the victim (ah, I think it just got more racist). He accused the restaurant employee of hiding something in his hand under a napkin, which he thought was an ice pick. Kendall said that he defended himself by hitting the man with a metal pipe over the head.

Kendall is facing charges of felony assault and unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor intimidation. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime.
