Do pets love you?
No, of course not but they do feel the warmth which is the love you may have for them. At a minimum you are their meal ticket. That in of itself is why they stick around.
Same same with women. As long as you are their meal ticket they "love" you but the very moment you can't provide for them. The very moment they find a better deal, find some higher status.
Watch how fast that "love" goes out the window.
The reason being is it never was there to begin with. It was just something they were telling you to keep the goodies coming. Up until they could find something better. If they can.
The thing is men can love women all they want or none at all but don't expect them to love you back in the same measure. They simply do not have the ability.
Period.
Once you realize this it's easy to walk away from them or keep them around to whatever degree that suits you.

I don't have a meal ticket, I have a husband that I love. He doesn't provide for me; I make almost as much money as he does, and we have joint economy.
The opposite of what Mr King Patriarch is saying is true too; some men complain that women are too lovey-dovey and want to talk about feeeelings all the time, and some men just pretend to "love" a woman, to keep the goodies (aka sex) available.

@Creativerealms : The way this lot tends to think in strictly hierarchical terms, the idea of truly reciprocal love may strike them as self-contradictory (well, except for philia between alpha and/or beta men. Note that I'm talking about philia, NOT EROS.). In their thinking, love of an alpha or beta man towards a woman is necessarily (and literally) condescension, and a woman towards any man higher up than probably iota is necessarily...{scowl} I'd like to say "worship", but that one's so suffused with an auto-implication of "towards the divine" that it probably isn't the best one (its etymology comes from "worth"). Point being, the only good kind of relation an inferior can HAVE towards a superior is one of neediness, awe, dread, and/or obeisance. Anything else is contempt, an unwillingness to accept one's lowliness and the superior's innate glory.

When I was in college, I had a roommate who got a cat, at his girlfriend's insistence. The dorm didn't allow cats, so we all pitched in to keep it well-hidden from the cleaning staff or anyone who could get us in trouble. But something interesting happened.
I never cleaned this cat's litter box unless the owner arranged with me to do so because he wouldn't be around to do it when it needed to be done. I also never fed him unless his owner arranged for me to do so due to his own absence.
Despite this, that cat loved me, for no other apparent reason than the fact that I would pay attention to him and pet him and be kind and respectful to him in ways that didn't involve his biological needs. We just got along well, I guess. He spent as much time as possible in my room, curled up in my lap if I was sitting in a chair or curled up next to me if I was lying in bed.
The point: pets and people alike are fully capable of love if you are the kind of person they love. This usually involves being kind and respectful to them. So if you've never had a pet or a person love you, it's probably because you're a total asshole.
The fact that his experience has led him to make the argument that, just like pets are incapable of loving their owners, women are incapable of loving men, says a lot about both the way he treats women and the way he treats his pets.
I don't know what it is that makes people think "all people of my gender think exactly like I do; all people of the other gender think exactly like my lunatic ex", but I really wish they'd stop.
Or at least stop posting the results on the Internet.
I wouldn't go as far as to say there aren't women like that but I will say there's many more men that see women and wives as servants and no more than that.
