Somewhere back in time, people decided that it was a great thing to lie to kids about Santa Claus. For some reason, it’s been deemed okay to make up all kinds of stories about this “magic man”. And if anyone dares to publicly state that he is not real, they are scourged for it.
Personally, it has always bothered me. I didn’t like it that my parents lied to me, and I never liked lying to my daughter about it. I certainly didn’t use Santa as a tool to get her to behave or clean up her room or anything like that – which many do. I think Santa is a ploy to keep people from associating Jesus with Christmas and this year, I’m particularly annoyed with the Santa thing after watching the MSM fawn all over him.

Actually, the rise of popularity of the Santa myth is idicative of most people not giving two shits about your stupid Jesus myth. Yes, even in mostly Christian U.S.A. most people do not spend the entire holiday going on and on about Jesus. Something was needed to spice up the season and Santa was incorporated from old myths into the jolly character we know today.
Actually somewhere back in time some old dudes did something extraordinarily nice and bizarre occasions where money was dropped down a handful of chimneys happened within a coincidental timeframe and people being superstitous idiots that like to make up their own explanations for things built 101 myths around it either to explain it in ways that were amusing enough to warrant imitation rather than allow it to be a one time incident or try and make a buck off the retelling.
Frankly, I'm just pleased this is one of those times people didn't work in an excuse to enact regular excuses to commit violence as homage into their customs... except maybe those creepy fuckers that thought up Kraumpus the Whipfather.
Saint Nicolas was made the patron saint of giving gifts. His feast day was placed near christmass by the early christians to compete with the pagans who celebrated Saturnalia on december 25th.
The whole point of Santa Claus was to make Jesus' birthday a happy event.
The War on Christmas rears its ugly head again. What is it with you people and war, anyway? Why does everything have to be a war?
Someone said "happy holidays" instead of "merry christmas"? WAR ON SANTA. Someone brushes her teeth after every meal? WAR ON ENAMEL. Some guy forgot to make more coffee when he drank the last of it from the coffee pot? WAR ON CAFFEINE.
This mentality is a war on sanity, that's what it is.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is by far the most ironic thing I have ever read on FSTDTS.
Wow, this is Jack Chick level insanity. In fact, I think Jack did one like that. Kid gets all amoral and becomes a murderer....because Santa and the Easter Bunny was a lie.
Yeah, he really wrote that one up.

(Sorry, I don't know how to code)
If you didn't like lying to your daughter, why did you do it?
My parents never lied to me about Santa Clause, they never taught us kids that such a person existed. They made us understand from the beginning that it was all make-belief, someone who was dressed up.
I still never associated Jesus with Christmas, though. My parents seldom talked to us about religion, as I remember it. If we asked, they told us what people believe. I think my mother might be/have been at least a bit religious; she was Sunday school teacher when I was little, but I never went to Sunday school myself. I accompanied her a few time, but just as a kid visiting the workplace of a parent.
Who or what is MSM? Oh wait; I foresee a trip to Wikipedia and Google in my near future...

Personally, it has always bothered me. I didn’t like it that my parents lied to me. I don’t have any children, but if I did, I certainly wouldn’t use Jesus as a tool to get them to behave. I would want them to fully comprehend why they shouldn’t do bad things. Jesus is a ploy to keep people from celebrating Saturnalia, and instead making them celebrate Christmas.
So, you want to take the magic & whimsy out of Christmas? What's wrong with a little fantasy, Jodie The Grinch?
Also, one of the main inspirations for St. Nick was...St. Nick...of Myra! St. Nicholas was an early bishop of the Christian Church. He was allegedly present & the council of Nicaea & many a tale of goodness and charity have been told of him.
Finally...THERE IS NO FREAKING WAR ON CHRISTMAS YOU BUTTHEAD!

Paragraph 1: I totaly agree. Your parents are buying you presents, why does anybody need a magic fat man for that? Be thankful, eat your candy and have fun.
Paragraph 2: Ah, shit... You do realise "we" (not me anyway) celebrate the birth of Jesus that day, right? How can you not associate Christmas with Christianity and/or Jesus?
Since I was about 6 I have denied Santa exists and I have never been scourged for it. The scourging ensues when I deny God, Jesus, Adam, Eve, Noah, Moses, etc. Not that any credible evidence of their existence is brought to the agrument, mind you, but scourging, yes.
I didn’t like it that my parents lied to me
Now you know how I feel about my parents teaching me about God and Jesus.
Personally, I don't see anything wrong with having my kids believe in Santa Claus. When they get old enough to learn the truth, I plan to use the parallels between God & Santa belief to teach them why people believe in religion, and why they should reject religious beliefs without evidence.
This is true fundamentalism. That's why Jack Chick and groups like the Brethren treat Christmas as a normal day - or rather a day on which to squeeze in yet more attendance at worship.
There is a war against Christmas and the people who are waging it are fundamentalist Christians.
I think Santa is a ploy to keep people from associating Jesus with Christmas
Oh I don't know about that. I think people get the story right.
I mean, isn't Santa the one who died on the cross to save our presents?

So, Santa, the tooth fairy , easter bunny , jack frost and all the rest are simply untrue ?
let little kids enjoy some harmless beliefs, the will learn the world is a hard nasty place soon enough.
When I was a kid presents magically appeared in our house on Christmas Eve night.
I'd say that would mean there's more evidence for the existence of a fat man in a red suit who rides a sleigh powered by flying reindeer than there is that a man was killed, slept for three days and then was magically alive again, and then flew up and out of sight in the sky.
And if anyone dares to publicly state that he is not real, they are scourged for it.
No, they aren't. That's a complete lie. And Santa is based on a Christian saint, you dimwit.
St. Nicholas, before becoming the jolly giver of gifts to the less-fortunate, was best known for punching a heretic in the face at the council of Nicea. I think this guy and his ilk would prefer that version.
I remember having a lot of fun with Santa Claus belief when I was a tiny tot. Learning about Jesus and his threat of hell fire, no fun at all.
Fundies prefer their children to have guilt and fear rather than fun.
He knows when you are sleeping.
He knows when you're awake.
He knows when you've been bad of good, so be good for goodness sakes.
You'd better watch out.
You'd better not cry.
You'd better not pout, I'm telling you why.
Because Jesus will send you straight to hell.
...oh wait, I think I mixed my mythologies somehow.
So...my parents lied to me? I'm lying to my kids? What's next, Jodie? Are you going to tell me that Jesus didn't die on the cross only to be resurrected three days later as a chocolate bunny who hides colored eggs?! I need answers, woman.

Santa is quite real, I assure you. He just never brought you anything because you're perpetually on the Naughty List. The rest of us get some cool shit from him every year though.
"I think Santa is a ploy to keep people from associating Jesus with Christmas and this year, I’m particularly annoyed with the Santa thing after watching the MSM fawn all over him."
Yeah. That's it. Everything is about Jesus all the fucking time .
No wonder Santa doesn't visit you.
It gets better.
The character we know as Santa is partly based on the Germanic / Norse King Winter - who is none other than the alter ego of Odin. He was said to ride across the sky at Yule, spreading festive cheer.
The Church tried to Chritianise the character by associating him with St Nicholas, but at root, Santa is a Norse god.

@something you have in common:
Ah, the old "letting your kids believe in Santa is lying to them!" strikes again. What, do you never let them pretend?
And risk to have them come up with a less messed-up imaginary friend that Yahweh/Jesus? Certainly not! [/fundie]
(The sad thing is that we have had plenty of quotes by fundies who seriously believe that imagination is evil and that it should be quashed lest it threatens their fiction's monopoly on the mind of their kids...)
Now, I'm not a big fan of the Santa thing either, but for different reason. Santa is God for children. Santa's always watching. Santa will punish you with a fire-related object if you're bad. Santa will reward you if you are good. Do what I say or Santa will enact retribution upon you. It trains children to buy into God by making them have their own.
I would laugh, but the fact that the Moonnuts can't see the blatant hypocrisy in their own words is kind of sad in this case.
Oh, wait, no it isn't. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Confused?
