dancing
Any dancing in social settings such as clubs, bars and lounges is considered inappropriate and is not permitted. This does not prohibit modest dancing at appropriate non-VFCC
sponsored events and cultural settings such as family celebrations or formal occasions
such as weddings and balls. Performance or athletic choreography is permitted by students involved in public presentation of drama, music and cultural performances as well as
scheduled classes.

Big of them to let students dance out of school. Or, to put it another way, these arseholes want to control your life out of school, too.
Why is this even on here? This isn't like the bullshit creationist text books at Bob Jones University that claim electricity has never been proven, or the psychotic mind-police rules of Pensacola Christian College (that doesn't allow students to go to movie theaters, or public libraries). While I definitely wouldn't go to this college, it's not like they're being fascists or anything.
Case in point; games that are rated "Adults Only" (or A.O.) are extremely rare these days. They more or less stopped them making them in the 90s. And the thing about them is that they're usually extremely gory and perverted. Like, 3D sex scenes and sexual torture, and other weird shit. The point; the rules are too strict, but this is a private institution, and for all we know, they just put this in the handbook so the parents will be pleased. Do they really enforce all of it?

What, no bingo on Saturday night? What kind of college life is that?

Crap, there goes all my square dancing fun.

But I guess they're right: it's too lewd.
I'm guessing this isn't a big party school. Unless you count the tea party.
Still, the rules at some Bible schools are even stricter.
there goes my movies, music, and activities... (thrillers, rock, and electric guitar and growling, respectively)...
to be honest, i thought this was a middle school rulebook at first. not college level, where you're 18, so you're allowed those things in the first place...
Meh from me, too.
This is boring and probably ignored when it's safe to do so.
Incidentally, this school's athletic teams are known as the Fighting Amoebas.

Sorry folks, wrong century. Have fun enforcing that one.
College: "Hey, Susie, what are you listening to?"
Student: "Christian hymns, what else"
College: "Ok, I thought so, very good."
I love that people are saying "I wouldn't go to this school." Yeah, that's the thing. If your parents were fundies, it would be this school, one like it or worse, or NO COLLEGE AT ALL. Yes, a school has a right to make the rules it wants, even when they're crazy, but the situation for actual students is NOT one of "they knew all this and decided." They were pressured from day one to go to a fundie school, and their parents would have not given them any help to go anywhere else.
My problem isn't with the rules themselves, it's with the fact that people who should be learning to be adults and set their own boundaries are sent to nurseries pretending to be universities by repressive fundie parents. Even if the school has the right to do this, it's fucking up people's lives. I am surprised to see people who've said raising kids in a religion is child abuse turn around and defend a programming center.
This is pretty normal for a Christian college.
The one associated with my Christian school banned concerts and going to movie theaters, and let's not even get into what the big Christian universities (Bob Jones, Liberty, etc.) regulate.
Except for the no dancing clause this is actually fairly standard for a conduct agreement... which is usually promptly ignored to nobody's great surprise with rare punishment. Altogether though, their house and their rules. Nothing particularly offensive there although one point of interest that causes me to raise an eyebrow is that the wording implies that these conditions are meant to apply off-campus as well, which is where I would take major issue.
@Neith #1418786:
It's referring to "R" and "TVMA" rated programs that have an unrated (and supposedly uncut) alternate version, which is a valid restriction on their campus. My problem is the last bit on dancing in social settings. That reads to me that the college is trying to restrict activity off-campus. When off-campus for reasons not academic-related, the school doesn't get to make the fscking rules .
When I first saw this, I thought it would wind up being rules for like, a boarding school or something; you know, meant for the 12-18 crowd. A little restrictive, but reasonable, under those circumstances.
As college-age rulesets go, they're absolutely ridiculous, but I find it hard to be too terribly offended by them, because as a college you'll only wind up attending if you a. volunteer to or b. allow yourself to be coerced into it. In either case, you kind of deserve what you get.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
