Oh Shit!

They're being honest

Quote# 85914

Some political groups are asking Tennessee lawmakers to re-write history or at least how it is taught in the state.

[...]

They said the way textbooks are worded now can portray out founding fathers in a negative light. However, some teachers said changing the wording to sway the opinion of students could end up hurting their education.

"I want to be able to present the material and have the children, have the kids, have the students form their own opinions. Not have their opinions formed ahead of time," said American History Teacher CJ Manahan.

"Slavery is of course portrayed in the textbooks nowadays I'm sure as a totally negative thing. Had there not been slavery in the south, the economy would've fallen," said Tea Party Activist Brian Rieck.

Nerikull

How dare the schools teach real history instead of the stream of revisionist crap of David Barton!!

What will the children do when they learn actual facts?

Slavery IS a totaly negative thing.
A slave labour based economy is UNSUSTAINABLE, and it stratifies any civilization into a ridgid class system.
It precludes industrialization, leaving the economy totaly dependant on simple resourse extraction, which leads to rampant unemployment.

And its FUCKING IMMORAL.

"No uncomfortable facts, thanks."

The rallying cry of totalitarians everywhere.

I had to read the bolded statement three times before my brain would process this level of inanity. Of course an economy built on treating people like farm machinery would collapse if those people were then freed: this is not a reason to say slavery is defensible in any form.

You know, I hate to admit it, because I've been involved with the tea party, but the more I look into it, the more I'm seeing that the claims of racism in the tea party are accurate, particularly among the Ron Paul/libertarian wing of the movement. Very sad to see. I don't know who to support anymore. :(

Better honest than lying...I guess?

@ His4Life

Well, there may be hope for you, yet. The McVeigh (Tea) Party is nothing but horseshit and hatred.

I have a bit of new-found respect for you.

Congratulations!

Congratulations, Troll4Life; the scales on your eyes have slipped a bit.

The three characteristics most prevalent among Teabaggers (citation: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/17/opinion/crashing-the-tea-party.html?_r=2) are racism, previous wingnuttery, and religious fundamentalism.

One down, two to go.

*spit take* Well at least they're being up front about their bigotry.

Is there some sort of competition between the states that demands them to do the absurdest shit possible?

@His4Life: Congrats, you finally noticed that their policies would fuck over the vast majority of blacks really, really hard.

Well done lady. I know we disagree on politics but I like you.

Wow... did they really just admit that they want to rewrite history books? This is a blatant example of trying to twist the facts.

And congrats to the teachers who are standing up to these nutjobs. Changing the wording would indeed hurt their education.

@His4Life

Now if only my dad could see the truth as well...

This controversy about the textbooks is nothing new, but now they want to portray slavery in a positive light? I know that conservatives in general and Tea Partiers in particular believe that wage slavery is a good thing, but this is chattel slavery we're talking about.

Also, it is completely true that the South needed slavery in order to remain financially solvent. However, that is the prime reason why the South deserved the postbellum economic collapse. All slavery did was prevent the southern part of the country from becoming an industrial economy. There is no reason why the South could not have industrialized except that its leaders liked slavery too much. Had the Deep South never joined the Union, nothing of value would have been lost.

Time is illusory. There is only now. Conventional wisdom has it that time is 13.7 billion years ..er.. old, as it were. However, the extended 'now' that gives the impression of starting to happen so long ago, actually only started about 6000 years ago; or early 'now' as it's also known.

So it is with historical matters. Because of the 'now' conundrum, what seem like historical facts are actually only atheistic interpretations of the reality of the early 'now' when, in fact, now is, as it always is, in economic need of slavery as per the wishes of the grand cosmic thug.

Historical facts should always be perceived as conveniently supporting the wishful thinking of the current 'now'.

You wanna know the scariest part?

These Tea-Party fucks might end up ruining running the country. Personally, I plan on hopping the border to Canada if that happens.

The problem with textbooks is they've led us to believe slavery in the US stopped when we still have people imprisoned on plantations in shacks all over the country.

actually it did fall, bullets will do that

The economy isn't worth the system of slavery. For that matter, there's a great many things that the economy doesn't weight up to. Not that this is immediately apparent if you abstract it down to "it's the economy, stupid".

I suggest that His4Life support the party of rational, reasonable conservatives...the Democratic Party.

2/4/2012 4:48:28 AM

In fact, that's the reason why the South lost the war. Slavery was good, in the beginning, for the economy of the white men. Later on, it stagnated. That's why nobody "revises" history.

Hullo His4Life.
