On Washington Watch today, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins criticized Democratic efforts to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which discriminates against gay and lesbian couples, and accused gays and lesbians of “thrust[ing] their bedrooms into the public square.” Perkins went on to say that opponents of gay rights should be proud that they “have compassion and love for those who are bound up in that destructive lifestyle of homosexuality”:
Look, we’re not in people’s bedrooms. What they have done is they have thrust their bedrooms into the public square and are forcing a redefinition of marriage, and forcing Americans to condone their behavior. But even the Democrats see this, that there is no support across America to redefine marriage. Folks, I just want to encourage you to continue to stand up for traditional morality, for natural marriage. Yes, we have compassion and love for those who are bound up in that destructive lifestyle of homosexuality. But we do not have to shrink back in silence and allow them to redefine marriage and to reshape our culture.

Well, we're not all going to flock to one of your hate temples for an officiation now, are we?
And this shit about thrusting bedrooms into the public square is bullshit. It's more like your team peeking through people's windows.
Pervert
"Natural marriage"? What the hell is so natural about a marriage?
There is very little redefinition going on. Marriage is still a contract between two adults who promise to take care of each other as long as they live.
Marriage has been redefined many times before. You're not allowed to marry a non-adult anymore, and you're only allowed one wife at a time nowadays. You can't rape some girl and then pay off her father and marry her anymore either.
What people do in their bedrooms is no-one else's business, as long as no-one is hurt. You don't have to have sex just because you're married, and you don't have to wait until you're married to have sex. Not all gay men have anal sex, and quite a few heterosexual couples do have anal sex.
Homosexuals have always been a part of our culture, stupid. The fact that they are now accepted as the normal human beings that they are will not change anything, (except their quality of life).
"accused gays and lesbians of “thrust[ing] their bedrooms into the public square.” Perkins went on to say that opponents of gay rights should be proud that they “have compassion and love for those who are bound up in that destructive lifestyle of homosexuality”"
I can TASTE the irony there.
Gays will have sex, married or not. Just like straight people. They also often want to get married for reasons unrelated to sex, like straight people. So, how is it that gays are thrusting (heheh) their bedroom in the public but straigt people aren't? And aren't you people, in effect, sicking your noses in their bedrooms in the first place?
Might I suggest you stop "thrusting" your heterosexual bedroom antics in public as well. So no more kissing in public places. Don't even think about holding hands either. I don't want to see that shit. It's bad when at least 3 times a week I catch a hetero couple fucking in the back of a car in the darkest corners of any property I happen to be on, while on the clock. I never catch a homo couple doing that.
"Perkins went on to say that opponents of gay rights should be proud that they “have compassion and love for those who are bound up in that destructive lifestyle of homosexuality”: "
And the KKK had compassion and love for those who had unfortunate darkness of the skin.
That sure is a lot of thrusting you're thinking about.
Look, we’re not in people’s bedrooms.
You're right, you're in your own closet.
If traditional morality means fundie morality, then take it and shove it up your ass, because fundies tend to be quite immoral. And natural marriage? Remember that you guys have a holy book that has many cases of marriage between one man and many women, yet I never see fundies arguing for legalization of polygamy.
The Peeping Tom Justification, eh?
The loving use of 'thrusting' seems suggestive of something - now what could that be?
Again with the thrusting. You forgot the "forcing it down our throats".
The support for same sex marriage by Americans is basically irrelevant. The inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness is not up for a vote.
accused gays and lesbians of “thrust[ing] their bedrooms into the public square.”
Oh come out already! When you homophobes talk about gays thrusting and shoving things down your throats, you couldn't be more closeted if you were a winter coat in July.
Traditional morality means selling your 12-year-old daughter into marriage with a 40-year-old man, who has 3 other wives already. Fuck traditional morality.
Don't like gay marriage? Don't get one.
Over 50% of Americans support "redefinition", bitch!
In the meantime, Congress should take the focus off of DOMA and REACH A FREAKING DEBT AGREEMENT!
When are these right-wingers going to realize that marriage has already been redefined just in this past generation? It's no longer the "man in charge of a subservient wife" thing their parents idealized. The pressure to conform to gender roles have been removed so that marriage is now considered a "partnership of equals". And if men and women are equals, then it no longer matters what combination you put them in.
I think that's what really has them so terrified about both gay marriage and abortion. The concept of patriarchal gender roles (and the control of women) finally being put in its grave once and for all.
I'm so sick of this "redefining marriage" bullshit. By redefining it, you mean changing the arbitrary definition you motherfuckers made up just to have something to argue about. Marriage has been a political institution for thousands of years, initiated by families rather than individuals. We have the freedom at this point to choose our mates for ourselves (not to mention how terribly this is working out with the 50% divorce rate and all), and all the gay community wants IS THE SAME GODDAMNED RIGHT. Why is that so fucking hard? Oh, I know why. Because if the Republicans didn't dive into other people's bedrooms, bodies and personal business, nobody would vote for them, as their "fiscally conservative" and "small government" ideals would lead to anarchy. Fuck you and your mother, Tony Perkins.
Sorry for the rant.
Marriage existed long before modern day wizards co-opted it as part of their modern superstitious mumbo jumbo. Granted, it was probably a ceremony that ancient wizards with their ancient supernatural mumbo jumbo presided over. But, the point is, it's got fuck all to do with that despicable pair of arseholes, God and Jesus.
I...
Insist homosexual acts are worse than terrorism, rape, and murder.
Think all sins are the same, but homosexuality is by far the worst and must be condemned far far more than any others, which can be spared.
Repeat the "love the sinner, hate the sin" cliche while calling gays perverts, deviants, abominations, barbarians, and every other nasty little thing my vitriol-soaked mind can conjure up.
Think the entire spiritual fate and moral status as a nation is set upon whether or not we loathe homosexuals (whoops, should be 'homosexuality').
Insist on going to other, developing nations and poisoning them with hatred for gays, then apologize, saying I never knew such hate could happen in a feeble attempt to salvage a ravaged shard of my conscience.
Encourage violence towards gays via Leviticus 18:22, and then back to the whole salvaging of conscience thing.
Say Sharia law is moral because it kills homosexuals (Oh, by the way, I'm against Sharia law).
Promote the idea that all homosexuals are child molesters, and should register as sex offenders, despite their mutually consentual relationships.
Think quoting the same bible verses over and over changes a gay person.
...and I love gay people much more than any "gay rights" supporter.
I don't mean to alarm you, Mr Jerkin's, but you appear to have gay sex on the brain... Don't worry, this condition is easily cured by fellating a shotgun.
@#1315317: perfectly summarized.
This has nothing to do with bedrooms.
There are rights spouses have (such as visiting hospital beds, joint tax returns, basically ALL the accomodations for a married couple) that are being denied to gay couples.
This. Is. Not. Right!
Marriage is defined as the LEGAL joining and partnership of two people. Love and sex were only put in later, Hell, kids were an afterthought as marriage was developed before people were absolutely sure how men and women got kids in the first place.
You're using the word "thrusting"? For real?
And no, you are not loving.
No, I don't want you in my bedroom...I want to be able to marry who I want, and unfortunately, I have to fight against assholes like you to get basic rights. That does not entitle you to ask what happens in my private life.
You call a majority "absolutely no support"!?
Even conservative polls show a majority supports gay marriage! And absolutely everyone agrees it's trending up meteorically(thanks to Gay Nazi's complete control of the media)!
Oh, wait, I forgot you're religious. Those silly facts don't matter to you people! You're the ones famed for using GOD as your personal sock puppets!
Give it up, Perkins. Your career is dead, and no amount of media whoring will resurrect it. Also, you know fuck-all about love.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
