@Giveitaday: ""Macro" evolution is a creationist concoction and as such is not a recognized distinction in evolutionary sciences."
Bullshit.
Total. Ignorant. Bullshit.
The terms macroevolution and microevolution were coined by a biologist called Yuri Philipchenko, and popularised in the west by his student Theo Dobzhansky, one of the greatest evolutionary biologists of the 20th century.
And they are regularly used by evolutionary scientists and have particular meanings in evolutionary theory.
"Macroevolution of Complex Retroviruses"
Aris Katzourakis, et al, Science, September 2009.
"Development and the evolvability of human limbs"
Nathan M. Younga, et al, PNAS, December 2009.
"his critical change in integration among hominoids, which is reflected in macroevolutionary differences in the disparity between limb lengths, facilitated selection for modern human limb proportions and demonstrates how development helps shape evolutionary change."
"Darwin's bridge between microevolution and macroevolution"
David N. Reznick & Robert E. Ricklefs, Nature, February 2009.
"Environmental change drove macroevolution in cupuladriid bryozoans"
Aaron O'Dea1 & Jeremy Jackson, Proc. Royal Society B, October 2009.
The terms were in use long before creationists started abusing them, and they are still in use today.
