These "people" understand one thing: power. If we'd have nuked Medina or Mecca after 9-11...I truly mean if we'd have said "OK, you Moslems hit the WTC? Here you go...!" and literally dropped nuclear weapons on Mecca and turned it into Pyrex, I guarantee you two things. First, respect (that's right...RESPECT) from the Islamic world. Second, no more terrorist attacks on the U.S. (And as an added side benefit, no place for Moslems to pray to!)

Harsh? You bet. What I would enjoy doing? No. But we're dealing with a culture you don't understand...one that is brutal beyond your comprehension.

I've never actually gotten ANGRY at a fstdt quote before but this guy does it. I mean seriously, you got a fucking culture of people ready to go start suicide bombing because they heard someone flushed pages from their holy book down a toilet, and REMAINED ANGRY ABOUT THE SITUATION EVEN AFTER IT WAS PROVEN NOT TO HAVE EVER HAPPENED. A culture of people who get angered by a european cartoonist who is not part of their religion drawing a picture of their prophet, enough to send death threats, and you think that attacking their most holy site would gain RESPECT?

Not only would doing this DRAMATICALLY increase the amount of terrorist actions, but we would anger many other nations to war, including many of our allies, and many non-islamist countries because guess what asshole? We're not the only ones with nuclear weapons.

The fact that you name yourself after Wyatt Ellis' testament to freedom, individuality and reason boggles my mind, you have no idea what Wyatt's Torch represents, and you likely never will. (Guess what, Rand was an Atheist, you stupid fuck.)

I'm not going to say "die in a fire" because that's not fast enough and honestly I don't care how it happens but please for the love of shit, remove yourself from the gene pool ASAP.

Time for a lesson in realpolitik, Mr. Torch.

If "you" had launched any nuclear weapons against Muslim holy places in the aftermath of 9/11, several things would have happened in short order:

1. OPEC (the majority of whose members are Muslin nations) would have cut off all oil supplies to the US. They did this in 1973 when the US supported Israel during the Yom Kippur War, so you wanna bet that they would make it dark.

2. A US city (or multiple cities) would die in a fire. Pakistan (a Muslim nation) has nukes, lets not forget. Same goes for any Muslim ex-Soviet republic that is still in possession of nukes. The typical nuke today can fit into a package about the size of a washing machine. Better check everything that size and larger coming into your country!

3. Any American, anywhere, any time, would be an assassination target. It would be deadly for any American to leave the US. Remember how Salman Rushdie had to go into hiding when the fatwa was issued on him? Imagine your entire country doing that.

4. You would have no allies. As much as you like to bluster about how great America is, you would quickly learn how important global trade is. So don't think any of NATO, let alone any other nation, would come to your aid after such a bald-faced terrorist act (I'm speaking of nuking Mecca...)

While this submission is retarded and fundie, I think there is a message within the message that does have a little bit of truth to it. Mainly that there are people and groups in this world who don't seem understand things like compassion, humanity, and basic human rights in the slightest. Unfortunately a disproportionate amount of people within muslim theocracies, and muslim culture seem to fall into this previously mentioned category. I'm often the first to stand up and talk about the role that bad foreign policy decisions etc. has had on the middle east, but anyone who thinks this is going to all be sorted out with a bunch of peace conferences, changes in foreign policy, and mutual understanding seems a bit naive. Either we sit around and learn to live with the violence and blatant human rights abuses that ooze out of the middle east, and hope for a major shift in the moral zeitgeist of muslim theocracies and radical muslims, and hope they turn into moderate muslims before we have armageddon, or we attempt to do something about it. Only the future will tell us if we are making the right decision.

Please note.* Nowhere did I imply that all muslims fall into any category.

Please note.** That by "moderate muslims" I mean genuinely moderate muslims. Not the type of people sometimes described as moderate because they don't blow up buildings, but who still think that blatant human rights abuses, and treating anyone not like them like shit is part of their culture that should be respected.

Did you get RESPECT after the Hiroshima or Nagasaki nuking? No, you got a whole world full of horrified people, despising your murder of over 200 000 of innocent civilians (and around 200 000 more have died since then, of nuke-related causes). 9/11 killed around 3000.

The mere thought of indiscriminately obliterating a whole city or country chills my blood.
You would have destroyed every single friendship with European contries with a nuking.
