(Is watching the Wizard of Oz sinful? )
Well, it is an occult and blasphemous movie. Oz being the occult view of the Judeo/Christian God...

I disagree. In the movie Oz only tells them to kill the witch....
(Oh, and heaven forbid someone should ever "pay attention to the man behind the curtain.")
Oh for God's sake, it's just a film! These people seem to fear contamination so much, that even the existence of films that don't capitulate to their beliefs constitute a threat to their existence.
Either that, of TomSki is hoping that his acolytes will be ever so impressed with his ability to spot occult references here, there and everywhere. He probably imagines that it paints him as some kind of moral crusader.
I think that it has to do with being fun.
Fundie mindset:
Fun=occult, satanic, sinfull (except for the lesbian sex. Says so in the bible... or rather, strongly implies)
boring= godly, holly, allowed
Well, I assume the "true believer" should constantly be on his knees anyway, praising the lord, so that he hasn´t any time for sinful activities like watching movies.
With the exception of movies that are based on the belief in the literal truth of the bible or are propaganda against the evil "belief" of the Evolutionists of course
;)
You guys won't be happy until you have a Taliban-like grip on the US, will you? No films, no tv, no radio except that which glorifies your god, no singing, no dancing, no women walking outside without a male family member, women having to cover themselves up, getting to stone women for allowing themselves to be raped...
You guys are assholes. If you want a slippery slope, just look at your own beliefs. You actually do want this craziness.
Further down the page:
"I guess then anything can be sinful, if you want it to be."
Hmm... People coming up with what sins are and not god? EGADS! CAN'T BE!
"Oz being the occult view of the Judeo/Christian God."
Actually, it's more of an analogy for your priesthood.
Actually the Wizard of Oz is a great atheist-themed story. You have a group of people convinced they need something from the all-powerful, yet it's actually something they have within themselves. When they do finally meet the all mighty, he's just an old man charleton behind the curtain with his smoke and mirrors.
Erm, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was published in 1900, and the world is still trundling along.
I'm not that into this book/movie, but isn't Oz a country or a world? Not any kind of god?
"We're not in Kansas anymore..."
If you people want to search out and condemn sin, why don't you start with yourselves? I'm sure you'll be able to find some without too much trouble. And if you can't find any sin, what do you need with Christ?
Instead of listening to TomSki (that sounds really bolshevik, btw) I'll be off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz. You know, I hear he is a whizz of a wiz, if ever a wiz there was. Mainly because of the wonderful things he does.
I always liked the old MGM version.
Great movie, full of positive inspirations and good moral lessons.
No wonder the rapturists are afraid of it.
Wonder what this guy is doing now that the new Harry Potter movie came out today, after all they wanted copies burned when the books came out.
Maybe they'll light themselves on fire to protest. But then again I'm not dreaming.
Not even close, you have to watch horror movies to see real connections
The Wizard of Oz explores:
Understanding those who are different
The answers are within yourself
Try to get along with everybody
Not in the Bible. Also,: Who would be Moses, Jesus or God in The Wizard of Oz
Okay enough. First of all it's just a story, meaning IT ISN'T REAL!! (sorry to everyone else for the caps) In fact if anything else it was an allusion, or a parallel commentary, to the political events that were happening at the turn of the last century.
Seriously, stop making crusades up to "win" over so you can call yourself a good Christian when there are people who are starving, have no medical care, and/or are being oppressed by a brutal government for starters.
No, shut up. Obama doesn't count as opressive.
The Wizard of Oz books were banned and burned for many years after they were published because they were communist propaganda !
People objected to the economy of OZ supporting everyone and everyone sharing everything. Work, wealth and community were communal on OZ.
Scientists: Evolution! The Big Bang!
God: 'I'm Melting! MEEEELLLTIIINNNNGGGG!'
We'll get you, and your little Jesus too!
Too funny. If you guys were lost and given a map, you'd ridicule that, too. Ah, but you already do that...
@TomSki
What's the difference between "The Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum and The Bible? One has had films based on such, is loved by children & adults alike, and not for nothing is it considered a timeless literary classic. The other is about a fictional deity.

The Times Atlas of the World. The Bible. One of these things is not like the other. Which is it, TomSki?

You couldn't find your own arse with both hands, a copy of Gray's Anatomy, a satnav & a map. After all, so many fundies live in Tornado Alley.
And you wonder why so many of the USA's intellectuals live on the East & West coasts of your country?:

The Great and Powerful Oz was a fake who sucked in the gullible.
Jesus was a fake who sucked in the gullible.
I do see a certain similarity.
Also, both stories are fiction.
my stunted metalhead brain immediately thought of a certain former Black Sabbath frontman that isn't ronnie james dio when i read Wizard of oz, which may be the christian's problem, come to think of it...
They can't really claim it's inspired or based on the Bible,,,so they claim it's how non-Christians see the Bible.
As many pointed out here it's probably because there's a solution to conflict, evil and contentment that we can find by working together instead of praying.
I'll go the next step and state they don't like ANYTHING where God and Jesus aren't part of the characters vocabulary.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
