ERVs are good information gone bad. It is a contamination that contaminates according to susceptibility. There are no transitional fossils for any of the millions of species, there is no observed evolution. The flu is just trying to survive and it will never change into a cat. The flu is not even a life form. It is just bad information replicating itself.

he says "the flu is just trying to survive". and there we have it, in a nutshell. he has no logic. that must be it. i wonder how he gets through life?
flu wants to survive->flu changes to survive->???->evolution!
changing to survive IS evolution, how is he so blind?
Although this guy is clearly an idiot and totally missed the mark, there actually is some debate about whether or not viruses can technically be classified as being 'alive', since they are basically just rogue DNA or RNA, which is unable to survive without a host cell (differentiated from parasites in that parasites have cells, while viruses don't). That's not to say that I'm of the opinion that viruses aren't a lifeform (or are one, for that matter -- I'm on the fence), just that the controversy is there.
That having been said, viruses are better evidence FOR evolution, not against it.
"Transitional fossil" is a stupid term anyway... the only time it's actually applicable in science is when it shows a transition from one class to another (e.g., a fish in the process of developing amphibian-like characteristics). There are no half-and-half species, as EVERY living thing is its own species... including those produced by interbreeding (mules, ligers, and so on).
What Mrs AntiChrist said.
But... @ #939972
flu wants to survive->flu changes to survive->???->evolution!
The 'flu virus doesn't want to survive. Mrs AntiChrist pointed out that it's arguable whether viruses are alive or not, you would have to prove that RNA/DNA chains are not only alive but sentient to make that argument.
"flu is not even a life form, its just alive".
Oh-kay, well its clear you're an authority on the subject.
You had parents (a fairly good assumption). If you also have children, that makes YOU a transitional life form. It is that simple. If you die without children, then you're an evolutionary dead end.
Now please tell me you don't really think that scientists meant that evolution created entities that were half one thing and half another. That's the "Mr. Potato Head" theory Hypothesis of Evolution. It is only for the use of complete jackasses in the privacy of their own homes, and even then they should be under the careful supervision of a responsible adult.
Every single fossil (except when the latest one goes extinct with no offspring) is a transitional fossil, you imbecile. You are a transitional life-form between you parents and your children.
There is a multitude of observed evolution. The moth that was dark-grey during coal-burning times but has now turned light-grey is a good example.
The flu is surviving through evolution, dolt. If it were to morph into a cat, THAT would disprove evolution. Oh, and the virus is not sentient, it doesn't WANT anything.
The flu virus is:
"considered by some to be a life form, because they carry genetic material, reproduce, and evolve through natural selection, but lack key characteristics (such as cell structure) that are generally considered necessary to count as life. Because they possess some but not all such qualities, viruses have been described as "organisms at the edge of life", and as replicators." Wikipedia
Most of the symptoms we call "common cold" and "influenza" are things our body does to try to expel and/or kill the virus. Sometimes, our bodies are stupid enough to kill themselves in this effort to kill the virus. A sign that we evolved to be "good enough", and were not "intelligently designed", as that would have been a very stupid and obvious design flaw.
Confused?
