Don't feel badly, Hon. A lot of us on here have been quoted--consider it joy. Pray for these people--their lives are so empty and so they try to fill it by stealing joy from and making fun of God and His people. Let them have their cheap little laugh--it is probably all they have going on in their lives. They seriously need prayer. Prayerfully, some of them will come to the knowledge of the Truth. Sadly, many others will remain blind. We don't know who is who, so pray for them all. I'm praying that you're feeling better since you know that so many of us are in the same situation as you. They are pitiful

Yeah, that's right, we weep by ourselves all day till we hear "GOD HATES FAGGOTS" and "I DIDNT EVOLVE FROM MONKEYS!!one" , then we cry tears of joy at the beauty of God's people, and get the urge to steal that joy we can't experience on our own.
Kind of my point
We make fun of these people and mock their cherished beliefs.
Regardless of how stupid those beliefs are to us, why are we making their live worse for our amusement?
Are we really any better than a school bully?
@ Kremlin KOA
I'd suggest that a school bully is operating from a position of considerably more power than most of the posters here.
Also, the site is aimed at things said by fundamentalists, not religious people per se. Fundamentalists "cherished beliefs" have, as we have seen in innumerable quotes posted on to this site included things which are genuinely objectionable to non fundamentalists, including, but not limited to -
Justifying rape
Justifying forced sterilisation of women who have abortions
Justifying murder for religious reasons
Justifying violence towards homosexuals
Overturning democracy
What I said in my previous post is objectionable; I'll admit that, it was crude and insensitive. But is it on par with justifying rape or calling for a religious dictatorship - No!
I see a lot of angry retorts to the fundamentalist quotes on this site. It's just criticism, harsh criticism to be sure, but persecution and bullying, it’s not. If someone says something that is objectionable you have to choices really, you can object or by your silence you can consent to what has been said. I know what I'd rather do.
We pretty much do it because it's hilarious. Hey, I'm all for helping misguided people out, but there's a point of no return, and once it's passed, you kinda just have to make light of the situation.
Who knows, maybe if we're lucky enough, some of these people will actually realize how horrendously stupid/dogmatic they've been and calm down a bit!
Actually, my life is great. Sorry to disappoint you. Anyway we make fun of your quotes because they sound really, really stupid to us, not because we hate you or anything. We love you :)
@tolpuddle
So we are wannabe school bullies? that sounds so much better.
as to your second point. Yes some of these posts are basically excuses for murdering racist rapemongers, but I never said a school bully is as bad as one of the aforementioned.
And telling somebody to die in a fire is not just criticism. You may not have said such, but i learned that little retort on this site.
Some of the fundie quotes on here are rightfully villified. But some of them actually have insight, and this is one of the latter. We derive joy from making someone else's day worse. The difference between that and rape is a matter of scale.
Yeah come to think of it, I felt a wave of joy when I thought about my purpose in life being a lowly slave to an arrogant invisible dictator, who would set me on fire for all eternity if I ever so much as think of stepping out of line.
Right back at you, you intolerant bitch!
Don't waste your prayers on me. Go do something useful, like pounding sand.
I wouldn't really call this fundie. I also agree with Kremlin, to a point. I honestly think that a lot of the people quoted here really do have it coming. There are people who go overboard, but I've seen fstdt posters quoted as well to be fair. And sometimes something that is quoted pisses you off because it's so damn hatefilled, and sometimes it pisses you off to the point where a diaf is needed.
But this quote is neither hatefilled, overly stupid or fundie in any way really. Its surprising actually that it's from RR. It's the times that non fundie, stupid, or hateful quotes get hateful responses that I'd say we go overboard.
WE have empty lives, but you have 9748 people who are homesick? Let me guess, you're homesick for your palace in the sky, living next door to Jesus. But we're the ones with the empty lives!
We don't make fun of God. What's the point? Would you make fun of Odin? We make fun of stupid people who gobble up everything their pastor tells them about God, instead of actually reading the Bible for themselves.
Many of us were Christians at one point, we've already known "the Truth". It just made less sense over the years, until it was just stupid nonsense and we became atheists.
You're the pitiful one, homesick. I'm happily already at home in my life.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
