I don't see this as especially fundie in and of itself, as it's a response many religious folks might have. It is, at least for some, a way of saying, "I hope this person is at peace now in the pleasant afterlife I, too, hope to someday inhabit."

He was a global warming denier so if there is a hell i hope he's burning in it.

GreenEyedLilo

Not my first thought, but I think this person meant well.

11/6/2008 9:47:53 PM

blah

Meh, not inherently fundie (even though it's on RR) and meant with (I think) the best intentions.

Why don't you go find out?

He DID like the idea of man co-existing with dinosaurs...

One Trick Pony

Not fundie, it's a sincere hope for someone's happiness from their view.

People need to stop assuming malevolence when hearing this, at least without proper context.

Joe-Bob

this shouldn't be on here.

Well, you are no Christian if you believe in the Rapture. It goes against everything that Christians have believed for 2,000 year.

You are a Rapturite.

I gave it a one. This is actually a really kind sentiment from these people. Usually it's just "He's not Chrisian enough! Praise his death and he'll burn in Hell!"

Not really fundie.

11/6/2008 10:15:49 PM

Poorly phrased, but I agree with Syb and GreenEyedLilo.

11/6/2008 10:25:27 PM

"He was a global warming denier so if there is a hell i hope he's burning in it. "

Making up for the lack of the OP fundie content?

"He was a global warming denier so if there is a hell i hope he's burning in it."

Atheist fundie of the week?

11/6/2008 10:37:28 PM

GigaGuess

As far as RR goes, this is actually pretty kind.

Suppose the answer is no

Well, he went through four divorces so I'm guessing the RR crowd won't think him a true Christian.

Sorry, Holy_Loved, but he's clearly burning in Hell.

His Jurassic Park novels presuppose both the validity of evolution, and the blasphemous notion that dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago (thereby implying that the Earth is more than 6012 years old). And I hear that he never once advocated the lynching of a homosexual!

Old Viking

Meh.

11/7/2008 12:36:49 AM

Mat

This is actually kind of sweet, with the whole connotations of "I hope he goes to heaven".

11/7/2008 5:29:59 AM

Well, he did tell people that dinosaurs and people lived together, so....

But then he had that one with the talking monkey, so I guess not.

PiGirl13

How is this fundie? You could even see it as kind of sweet, if you consider what that statement means to them.

Greater Good

"This is actually kind of sweet, with the whole connotations of "I hope he goes to heaven"."

Along with the assumption that if he isn't a Christian, he's going to hell no matter what. Did everyone commenting on this quote take stupid pills or something?
