Today, in the car, after picking up my 16 year old son from school, he told me that he will not be attending church this Sunday. Shocked and confused, I asked him why he would say such a horrible thing, and he said it's because he doesn't believe in God anymore. Apparently a child at his school has been going around telling the other children that God is not real, apparently the child is an “atheist”. I asked my son why he would believe such a horrible thing and he said “because there’s no proof that God exists.” I told him that the proof is everywhere, I told him that the proof is in the bible, yet he still believes the horrible lie that child has been spreading around. I spoke to my husband about this and we’re not sure what we’re going to do, but we’ve called the school and the school district and filed a complaint about the lies that child is spreading. It clearly has something to do with the parents of that child, so I’ve encouraged the principal to contact CPS to look into the situation. As for our son, we’re not sure what we should do. It’s horrible to think that our own son is committing a horrible sin by denying the existence of the lord.
Please help, what do we do?

... he said “because there’s no proof that God exists.”
Well, atleast your son is smarter than you.
It clearly has something to do with the parents of that child, so I’ve encouraged the principal to contact CPS to look into the situation.
Unless the parents of said child are abusive or neglectful then CPS cannot do anything.
If you were a good parent, you should celebrate your son's ability to think, and encourage it further. But, since you're a theist who prefer to believe in that which isn't true, I guess scepticism and rational thought are alien and disgusting concepts to you.
Principal at the school(writing on a scratch pad): "Yes, certainly, Maria; we will definitely look into that for you. Your child's intellectual well-being is our greatest priority. YOu can be sure that CPS will be contacted."
What he actually wrote: "MARIA IS A RELIGIOUS FUCKTARD. DO NOT LET HER NEAR OTHER STUDENTS."
Although given the state of education in the US, this may not be a likely scenario in some areas...
Let him alone. He's 16 and clearly capable of deciding what he wants to believe in. We're not going to agree with everything other people do, so get used to it...
As for calling CPS, well, with all due respect, I think it's you who needs counseling. Seriously. That is just completely fouled up...
... And no doubt the CPS will fucking follow through with this.
No, really, I meant it. They probably would.
Since there is freedom of religion, the school can do NOTHING on your behalf. Maybe, instead of looking for outside causes, look at yourself. Is your faith so childish and weak that your son can't find it thinkable outside your locked miniworld?
You do realize that the people at the school think you are a nutter, and CPS is not going "investigate" anything, and absolutely nothing will come of your "complaint"? Grow a spine and learn to deal with the real world.
@ #685988: Actually, making him read the bible is one of the best things she can do. If there is ever a fool-proof method of turning people into atheists, it's reading the bible. It's so full of bs that you'd have to be a complete moron not to see it for what it really is.
If you remembered to, as the bible says, raise your child up in the way he should go, he wouldn't have departed from it.
Clearly YOU are the one at fault and not this other child's parents.
Maria has probably done more to convince this boy to be atheist than that classmate.
I really, really, really hope this isn't true, though. If it is, I feel so sorry for that atheist kid (the classmate).
Oh my god, I was just talking about this a few days ago or so when commenting on another of this month's posts. Someone was whining about CPS/DCF targeting christians, and I said that I knew christians who made anonymous calls to these departments to "get back" at people who piss them off, taking time and resources from children who are actually abused. And looky here. When this bitch realizes the principal isn't going to do any such thing, she will find out the kid's name and call and tell whatever lies she can think of to get the parents investigated. If she makes enough anonymous calls, the child will be removed, at least temporarily. I'd bet money on her doing it. Man, that pisses me off so bad, I really have seen it happen several times and it just burns my ass. These people don't care who they hurt as long as they can tiptoe through life without being offended. DIE BITCH, DIE!!
Let your kid believe what he wants. It's his life, he has a brain of his own. He certainly sounds more rational than you. Also, I would like to know what this proof is that is everywhere. The bible doesn't count. It was written by men thousands of years ago and so could just be made up stories for all you know.
"because he doesn't believe in God anymore"
Pause the tape. This is gonna be good, I have to go get some popcorn.
"that the proof is in the bible"
Which doesn't seem to agree with reality.
"As for our son, we’re not sure what we should do"
Something stupid so it gets on YouTube, duh.
Yikes- looking at the way the son was referred to, I assumed he was three!
Geez- if he's that much smarter than you, I think you should listen to him.
Please, I have never wanted someone to be a Poe so badly!
Of at least, give the kid access to FSTDT! Haha!
And after doing that, my first thought was to post it on yahoo answers...?
Come on, this is obviously a troll.
You want the principal to contact CPS because the child is an atheist? God's Blood, biatch, you do realize that religion has no place in public schools and the child is free to state his or her opinion without running the risk of being taken from his or her home??
Your son was with you while you picked him up? Or are you as ignorant about grammar as you are about reality?
Just provide him with all the evidence you have of the existence of God. It should be easy for you, surely.
Thank whatever, that my parents never tried to force any kind of belief onto us (me and my siblings). They didn't even feign a belief in Santa Claus for our benefit. We always knew it was dad, dressed up in a loden coat and a visibly fake beard.
Please help, what do we do?

Leave him in a desert for 40 days and nights without food, then maybe he'll see your god.
Also, I take it CPS is Child Protection Service? If so quit wasting time that could be used to help someone who actually needs it you stupid fucking bitch.
Faith: n. belief in something despite the absence of proof.
Clearly, fundies have no faith, as they are always crowing about how proof is EVRYWEYR!!!! when, hionestly, it ain't.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
