Quote# 40505

[in response to another fundie who claims that God will solve the world's oil troubles]

Exactly what I am thinking. For people to refuse that is pushing God away and are trying to be Self-reliant rather the God-reliant. It is all to glorify "self" and tell God "you are not reliant and I can do things better then you".

Then for the world to say we are going to run out when the truth is that they don't really know - is just plain ignorant.

Also for us to have our intelligence plain insulted by our elected officials by telling us that our oil is worthless to the problem and we should not get it for it might harm some dumb animal is just asinine.

How can you say we are doomed if we keep using oil, but believe/trust in God? Does he not provide for all your/our needs, does he not hold the world in his hands? Did he not put the oil in the ground in the first place? Oil has been used for a very long time in human history. Oil was used for lighting, and energy in most of recorded history. So why are we right now saying oil is evil and we need to stop using it for the good of the planet? It's all a whisper from the Devil to stop us from receiving a gift from God and move us farther from him.

Yeah, 'cause we all know God didn't invent wind, or the sun, or geothermal heat, or- wait.

Of course, considering his track record with iron chariots, maybe he WANTS us to run out of oil.

Because God has such an excelent track record of directly intervening to help people overcome resource shortages

Oil was used for lighting, and energy in most of recorded history

Oil for lighting was usually made from pressed seeds such as flax. Try again please.

How can anyone be this stupid and keep breathing?

6/6/2008 5:54:29 AM

Dark_Lord_Prime

@Scooby71:

Only because breathing and heartbeat are autonomic functions and require no conscious thought.

Sad, ain't it? :P

I thought that we've only been using oil for the past (maybe) two centuries? You know, once we actually figured out how to make good use of it?

Psittacosis

Y'know, when such of us as are left are hunting one another through the ruins for food, it isn't going to be much satisfaction for us to be able to say 'told ya so'. In the meantime, you pray, and we'll work. ('Twas ever thus).

WHY CAN'T WE USE IT JUST BECAUSE WE ARE RUNNING LOW!

LOL!

So where can I get my share of this unlimited God-gas to fuel my house and SUV until the end of time?

Why doesn't God just make a giant oil field in the middle of America that is magically replenishing if he loves us so much?

Well, let's see. God didn't save us from plagues, but science did.
God didn't save us from famine, but science did (in first world countries, anyway).
God didn't give us knowledge and world communications, but science did.
God doesn't give us warnings of natural disasters, but science can. And it helps when those disasters occur, unlike god.
God's never done squat for us, while science has doubled our lifespans and given us the possibility of enjoying it, rather than trying to stave off death long enough to spawn enough children that one or two might survive into adulthood.

So yeah. I think I'll trust science.

I can imagine Jesus coming back, taking a look around, and telling these fundies to clean up this mess.

It's sad when they mix theology and consumer mentality.

1. The irony of such people. They are the ones most likely to fail. Humans don't "evolve" much because of our tool making. Our ability to sense change and prevent it from occuring. These idiots think the world is standing still, when it has changed so much within their lifetimes.

2. We will run out. Its like how Newfoundland Ran out of Cod. They took a renewable resource and plundered it without thought for their future.

3. Yes, those animals are extremely vital. The destruction of the animal and ecosystems of the US dustbowl region is one of the causes of the depression due to ecological backlash.

4. He provides for all your needs. If you think he provides for people all over the world then you are sorely mistaken.

5. I don't think you understand the difference in the term oil. Cause vegetable oil is oil as is "mineral" oil. Veggie Oil is delicious. Mineral Oil is quite toxic.

For the world (i.e. our island) to say we are going to run out of trees after we cut them all down - is just plain ignorant. How can you say we are doomed if we keep cutting trees, but believe/trust in God? Does he not provide for all your/our needs, does he not hold the world in his hands? Did he not put the trees on our island in the first place? Trees have been used for a very long time in human history. Trees were used for lighting, and energy in most of our recorded history. Our society on Easter Island will last forever.

Animals are not dumb, but you are. I think animals are much better stewards of the earth than humans.

I want to see tunce order pizza: "Yes, I've got 40 people to feed. I'll take one small cheese pizza. What? Of course that will be enough – if I take one piece, there's still one piece left. I see no reason why that pattern shouldn't continue, so I'll never run out. It's like the miracle of the loaves and fishes!"

We've seen how well he's handled crisis's in the past. I think I'll put my faith in other solutions with more possibility of actually happening.
