[How is christianity the "one true religion"?]

Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great but everything I'm about to say is total fact about the bible and the christian religion. The Bible has the most Archeological evidence out of any holy text in any other religion, Archeologists even use the Bible as a reference source to locate things, and evertime they dig where it says there is something, they find something! Also Every holy text has atleast one hundred prophecies but did you know that the Bible is the only holy text where ALL the prophecies in it other than revalations(which is set in the future, at least thats what most christians believe) have come true. Also about Jesus the reason we believe that he is the saviour is because he fulfilled all the prophecies that were made about him from more than a thousand years back, even ones that he could have no way to fulfill himself, like where he was born or how he was born.

The miracles camn also be proven true. They found the city Jericho a while back, you know the one that the Jews marched around and then the walls fell OUTWARD and then they walked in and burned everything, and Then God said that no one would ever lie on that spot ever again? Well when they found Jericho they noticed that the walls had in fact fallen OUTWARD, and when they walked inside the city they saw that all the grain had been burnt. Now let me tell you something, it would have been totally impossible for a little nomadic group for the Jews to topple the walls of Jericho, not to mention sneak into it and then topple it, cause they didn't have any equipment to do it with, and it had to have been them who had done it because we know they got past Jericho, and that they had no allies to do it for them. and also something else, since Jericho was toppled no one has built over the city to live there! the new Jericho they built is built a few miles away. Thats why christians believe what's in the Bible.

After all, teenagers know everything. When I was a teenager, I knew everything too.

meh, he's only 15. His brain hasn't fully developed. Hopefully somebodies argument will plant a seed of doubt that will grow until he's an adult. Maybe someone will get him to actually read up on some of the shit he's spouting.

Child,

A book written after the fact, can include any range of prophecies as the authors (plural) already know of the events they are writing about. The bible does not contain prophecies of Jesus 1000 years before he was born but rather the prophecies it does mention were written 100's of years after Jesus supposadly lived and died.

The 'walls of Jericho' are very interesting from a historical stand point but only really serve to show that the authors of the bible did include some actual events in history.

Whether the walls fell down because of the power of God or because of an earthquake, we will probably never be able to say with certainty, but, occams razors clearly indictates that we should go with the earthquake as being the simplest and most plausible explanation.

So the bible's a treasure map too now?

Ummm - does this imply that there are prophecies that are set in the past?

I actually heard the Jews used ninjas to attack Jericho, and practiced genocide in battle so they could tell their own version of every story.

This is all history stuff anyway, the walls of a city could be expected to collapse after this much time anyway, and the Bible's internal contradictions and misinterpretations discredit it enough.

Homeschooled I assume ;)

But I agree, from a historical standpoint the bible has its worth, as, aside from myths it also contains historical events.

As he mentions Jericho, one should mention as well, that Jericho also can serve as evidence against young earth creationism, as the first settlement at this place has been dated to be 11000 years old; older than earth according to YECs
It should also be noted that there were de facto advanced defensive structures, whose destruction however is dated 300 years before the Jews allegedly left egypt.

I lived near Jericho for almost 12 years, working as an archaeologist. This guy is full of bovine excrement.
The event (in an earthquake zone) took place long before Yeshua bin Miriam (Jesus to you - a name created by the Romans) was around.
Tell me, why do "Christians" follow the Old Testament, yet ignore the teachings of the New Testament in thier thoughts and actions?

5/30/2008 9:04:34 AM

@Michael
Maybe because in most cases these christian fundamentalists aren´t guided by the bible but use the bible as justification for their own moral agenda.
So that they can say things like:
"It is not only me who thinks that that homosexuality (or naked breasts) is immoral. Just look at the Bible, Passages x, y and z and you´ll see that they are an abomination in the sight of the lord, meaning that everyone who does such things will burn in the fiery furnaces of hell"

And in many cases the old testament comes closer to their moral standpoints (for example concerning homosexuality) than the new testament.
So they so a little cherry picking, stating that certain passages of the old testament are valid till today (everything fitting into their moral standards) whereas other passages aren´t valid anymore thanks to Jesus (for example laws that are rather ridiculous today, such as the law against eating shellfish, or all laws where people have to be stoned)

I might add that these fundamentalists are only a minority (although a very loud minority) and most christians in the world are rather sane (and also don´t take the bible literal) ;)

Darn

and evertime they dig where it says there is something, they find something!

So true, sadly they never find what they are looking for, just earth and dirt and shit.

Truly, the moment one of your 'scientist' mudcrawlers would succeed in locating that fabled arc of yours or just about anything mentioned the OT, it would be paraded down every know street in the universe to show us unbelievers that you have been right all along.

But sofar, no armour or chariots in the red sea, no Naoh's arc, no nothing, zilch, nada, noppes .....

The Bible is historical fiction.

Being 15 is no excuse for poor grammar, it's also no excuse for stupidity. It's pretty obvious you haven't done any real research on the bible, instead it seems like you're just regurgitating the same old "answers in genesis" type bullshit that you've been told. If archaeologists discover an ancient city that was mentioned in the bible, this does not in any way prove the existence of your god. It just means that the people who wrote the books lived in the Middle East and knew of these places. I really never understood why Christians think "OMG, they found the city of Jericho and the Jews wrote about Jericho so it must mean God exists!!!" That's like saying "OMG there's a country called Greece so that PROVES Zeus is the supreme god!" See how dumb that sounds? I hope you grow out of your gullibility and learn to think for yourself.

You are only fifteen, so I still have hope that you'll realise you're full of shit and learn something different. However, the finding of the ruins of Jericho only indicates that the writers of the bible (men) knew of these places, and invented a story about it to placate the ignorant at the time. It worked rather well, didn't it? Its still working on ignorant idjits now. Saying Jericho is proof of god's existence is like saying the Temple of Karnak is proof the Ancient Egyptian pantheon of gods existed.

Yeah, I knew it all when I was a teenager too and no one could tell me differently.

Fortunately for me, I was allowed to explore that and make my mistakes and learn from them and grow up. I can only hope the same for you.

But, the first sentence: "Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great but everything I'm about to say is total fact about the bible and the christian religion", makes me think you're lying through your teeth somewhere. Most 15 year olds don't tell the world they're only 15 and use it as an excuse for something; that's part of knowing it all as a teen.

I think you're a fake.

Beeblebrox

Alright, I'm only 15 so my grammar might not be great...

I won't bust your chops since you're just a kid. To be frank you are failing to engage in critical thinking.

...it would have been totally impossible for a little nomadic group for the Jews to topple the walls of Jericho...

There may not have been enough Jews hanging around outside Jericho to pull the walls down but apparently there were more than enough to get on with slaughtering every single living creature in the city: men; women; children; livestock. There were also plenty of Jews on hand to cart off the valuables: gold, silver, brass, and iron. You can find the story in Joshua chapter 6.

I'll say the same thing I say to my eight year old--I can't tell you what you should believe but I can tell you to think about everything you are told or that you've read. Five minutes of critical thinking can, in most circumstances, save you a boat-load of trouble down the road.
