i really wonder why, as Christians, we think it's ok to go to a secular university and have to sit through their classes on psychology, religion, science, and whatever else. do we really need to subject ourselves to that? i personally think apprenticeships are more appropriate for most if not all fields.

Professionals have to be mass produced, just like everything else in our society.
That was partially a joke, of course.
The problem with apprenticeship is that professionals have to, you know, do their jobs. They don't have time to watch over some hapless kid. That's why students only get to internships once they've mastered enough of the theoretical subject to not be a complete hindrance. And even then they still have much to learn.
By all means. If you want to live like the Amish and make your living farming or building furniture, an apprenticeship would be wholly appropriate. Strangely enough, the modernized fundie does not want to give up computers or desk jobs, they just want to give up being exposed to the outside world, and it's just not going to work. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. If you want the necessary knowledge to operate in today's global economy, you have to at least be willing to acknowledge the existence of differing ideas in the world.
Edit to add: Also, if your faith isn't strong enough to stand up to a college education, it's really... not much faith at all, is it? It's just ignorance, then.
Because psychology, religion, and science will help you get guys, although if your self-esteem is really that low you will probably end up with a Good Christian Guy anyway who will not expect any intelligence of you.
I still vote for shipping them all off to their own country, preferably landmass.
That way, everyone is happy, and if they get too out of hand, well...
I was reasonably well educated for a high schooler because of a lot of extra reading I had done. But when I went to college, I learned of more things than I had previously been exposed to, areas of knowledge that I didn't even know existed -- and I have learned even more since then, but largely because of my initial college experience. How can you know what you want to do with your life if you don't even know what many of the potential choices are?
On the other hand, as the judge said in Caddyshack , "The world needs ditch-diggers too."

It's called getting a well-rounded education, and everyone has to do it. I majored in Earth Science (Oh Noes!) but I also took Spanish(World Languagues), History(Humanities), and Art History(Art). I'm glad I have an understanding in all of these areas, and I can have an intelligent conversation about them. También, puedo hablar en el español, y es muy importante en el mundo moderno.
Because actually knowing some shit about the world makes people more effective when trying to accomplish things in it.
But then again, gaining knowledge was the original sin, so...

Don't go to those universities then. Make more places for people who actually want them. There's always Hyles-Anderson or PCC for the likes of you. Though since you're a woman, and you're posting on Biblical Womanhood, shouldn't you be in the kitchen popping out babies or something?
Apprenticeships turn out fine...just ask Mickey Mouse.
Then again, he was learning sorcery in that short, so this woman would probably say that Disney is burning in hell anyway.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
