I think you'll all enjoy the movie [Expelled]. My wife, and some friends of ours from church went to see it last night. It was pretty powerful, and really makes you think about what is happening in "academia" today that Intelligent Design is so looked down upon. Since when did science become a democracy? How unscientific to try and silence progressive thought. [...]

The Mighty Fek'lhr has some supernova-front property in the gamma quadrant He would like to sell you and your church friends.

(BTW, out of all the reviews I have read for "Expelled", the ONLY people that liked it were the lame-duck, quasi-intellectual church-goers that went to see it just to re-affirm what they already thought about ID and science. Weird, huh?)
*The irony! It burns!*
Ze goggles do nothing!
Are you trying to call intelligent design progressive?
Brainwashing and ignorance all in one mind. What a sad, sorry, terrifying combination.
“Since when did science become a democracy?”
Um... last time I checked, it always had been. If you can produce enough evidence (note: not evidence against the other side) for your theories, then governments and journals over the world will decide whether or not it is valid. You can't just slam a bible on the table, claim “PROOFS!” and run off.
<i>"progressive thought" ....belief in ghosts and goblins.</i>
I believe in ghost and goblins.
And Demon's Quest and Demon's Crest.
Science is not, and never has been, a democracy -- nor should it be. Science is a MERITOCRACY OF IDEAS, in which solid ideas that can be backed up with evidence win out over vague ideas that canNOT be backed up with evidence.
Evolution is a solidly verifiable fact, and evolutionary theory to explain it is backed up by mountains of evidence. Creationism/ID is a myth/hypothesis that doesn't even begin to clarify its own claims and also has no evidence to support those vague claims that it makes; the few concrete ones it has made have all been disproved by empirical evidence.
Sorry, but Ben Stein et al. LIED to you.

Progressive like free energy - You keep saying you're right, you keep saying we're trying to keep you down, you keep whining and bitching, and yet you show no real evidence that your ideas are better than yours.
"Since when did science become a democracy?"
Exactly. Now STFU! Not all ideas are created equal, and your pet ideology is definitely not worthy of even minor consideration, to say nothing about "equal time"...
OMG WE'RE BEING OPPRESSED!
ID is not being silenced, it's simply that no real scientist believes in it. Do you want people to support a cause that they don't think is real?
Calling ID "progressive thought" laughable.
"Academia" isn't trying to silence unpopular ideas, it's trying to dispense with the unsupported and useless crap know as ID and move along with scientificly valid projects.
Science is not a democracy. But you are expected to be able to prove anything you come forward with.
If someone actually comes up with proof of ID they will be on the front page of every scientific paper in the world.
Yeah, and why is the flat-earth society looked down upon in 'Academia' I wonder? Why do these evil atheists get to determine truth by collecting data, gathering experiments, publishing peer-reviewed journals, having their ideas questioned and critiqued and defending them or changing them if not giving up on them until they fit with all the facts.
How DARE they think that's ok?!
Science looks down on it because those who come foreward to "prove" Creation do so without any physical proof, data, years of research (or any worthy research outside of thinking on theology) and claim it to be science. It does not work that way, and science is not a democracy, but you think that it should be with your ID bull (let the children decide).
I think you'll all enjoy the movie
I might have before I was told it wasn't a comedy.
...really makes you think about what is happening in "academia" today that Intelligent Design is so looked down upon.
Free thought I'd say.
How unscientific to try and silence progressive thought.
Indeed! shame on you Mr Stein!
I love how they are all acting like this movie is storming the bastille of Darwinism and ending the tyrannical reign of academia. It's not. No one but fundy Christians care about this movie.
Just reading some of these people's responses, it is obvious why they think the movie is so great:

You believe? In your opinion?
This guy believes something that can easily be refuted by searching Google for less than a minute. Ignorance that strong is willful, not accidental. And they wonder why some people dismiss their views...
I've only seen parts of it, and it was dull as mud.
The only powerful thing was the thought "is this man really this stupid?" that popped up again and again for each clip.
As soon as ID can prove its point using facts and evidence it will cease to be looked down upon. It had its chance in the Kitzmiller vs Dover trial, but it failed, dismally.
Science is NOT a democracy, the evidence decides everything.
Expelled is not progressive thought, it's reactionary thought.
Confused?
