Last time I checked, scientific theories were not decided upon by popularity contest. Flawed or otherwise.
So, 53% of Americans believe in evolution? And your post infers that the theory with the most support must, of course, be correct. (100% - 53% = 47%. 53% believe evolution, therefore 47% believe something else. 53 > 47.) So, you're declaring that you now believe in evolution. Thank you for playing, who's the next contestant?
If you're going to make stuff up at least make it sound reasonable, here's an example:
A recent survey conducted by the Armenian Institute of People who tell the truth (Make up a good name here, +1 credibility, and make it foreign so that when people can't find sources you can claim that they're all in Armenian) showed that 26% of everyone on earth (Go big, this way it has to be true-er) believe in the Invisible sky wizard (TM) and that the remaining 74% (Make them add up to 100, that's the thing to remember with percentages) aren't idiots.

Although I could theoretically see it work. Meaning that 14% believe that God created the world but let evolution take place anyway. I still say those figures were spawned in the Ass of Man.

I love these. Not only is the point stupid (who cares what the percentages are -- truth isn't democratic), but they can't even express their stupid point correctly. Phailure on multiple levels! Sub-dribbler, I take my hat off to you (thus demonstrating my superior cranial capacity, but don't worry: a few million years and you should catch up).
To be fair, sub-driver might be reading too much into the statistics. It is, after all, possible to believe in both creationism and evolution (I've met people who think that God set it all in motion and evolution did the rest). But, judging from the specificity with which each category is defined, it is far more likely that sub-driver created these statistics and is incapable of adding fractions.
Guys? It's a real poll . Sad but true. Here are the actual results, which make only slightly more sense:
A. Evolution
Definitely true: 18%
B. Creationism
Definitely true: 39%
So the percent that overlap presumably only think they're both "probably" true. :/

Actually amusing enough this poll does exist and those were the numbers. It might look strange at first since by adding the numbers you get more than 100% but that isn't correct. The poll is correct since it also counts those that believe both in creationism and evolutionism.
I think the poll was done like this:
1. Do you believe in creationism? Yes/No.
A % of people answered Yes to both.
Of course it's sad that 66% believe in creationism and only 53% in evolutionism, but that says nothing about the correctness of the polling.
The real question is: Are the 19.666...% of people who apparently believe in both the thoery of evolution and the fairy tale of creationism the stupider group, or does that do the 66.6% that believe only in bedtime stories the looniest?
EDIT: @#409057 Actually I have dyscalculia and it mostly presents itself in algebra where one will confuse numbers and letters. For instance I'll see 'F' and think '4' a lot and other such things.

C'mon sub-driver, this is really simple math.
Now, also, 100% would be the entire population, you subtract 53% who believe in evolution from that and you get 47% who don't.
NOW HERE COMES THE PART WHERE YOU REALLY MESSED UP
Conclusion: You should have stuck to either percentages or fractions to avoid confusing yourself, because obviously you don't know how to convert them.
Sorry, folks, but this is a case of attacking the messenger. He didn't come up with those figures -- they may be pretty stupidly expressed nonsense, but they are not HIS nonsense. The real fault for this idiotic comment lies with the framers of the survey, not with him.
Of course, the implication that facts are determined by majority rule DOES qualify as his own contribution to the idiocy in this situation.

Could the problem be with the definitions being used? Because honestly, if I were being asked to choose just between "evolution" and "creation", I personally might choose both - I believe that God created the world and everything in it, but I have no problem with believing that s/he used evolution to do it.
Well, if the questions were asked as separate entities, it's perfectly possible for there to be significant overlap between "Did God create humans?" and "Did evolution occur?" since the two question are not mutually exclusive and most people are nearly so hardline as fundamentalists...
Not to say this guy isn't an idiot, just that it's not quite as cut and dry as it looks.
In other words, close to 20% believe in two mutually exclusive propositions.
Either that, or you know jack shit about statistics.
I think I can see what the problem is, whoever came up with these statistics has conflated YEC type Creationists with OEC/theistic evolution adherents to give them a figure of 66% to make it seem as if they are in the majority when in fact there are significant differences and arguments between the two positions.
So... two thirds believe in creationism, yet a bit over half believe in evloution?

It is possible to believe that God created self-sufficient life that could adapt to their environment without God's constant interruption. Also, concerning Intelligent Design, the only way it'd be intelligent at all is if it were evolution. A stupid God would create life that required his constant attention and micromanagement. An intelligent God would make it self-sufficient. Thus, the only "Intelligent Design" is evolution.
Yeah, not sure if off topic, but you can probably piss off a few fundies with it. c:
