Quote# 141032

Good works won't get us to Heaven

Some people are deceived in thinking their good works will get them into Heaven. Some will say I'm a good person. I'm not perfect, but I try to do what's right.

"God tells us there is none good, but the Father which is in Heaven."

We all sin and never could be perfect, no matter how hard we try. There was only one perfect and that is Jesus Christ.

"As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one." Romans 3:10.

"Our righteousness are as filthy rags." Isaiah 63:6

There is no way we could make it to Heaven without Jesus. Our hope is in Jesus and not ourselves.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

We should tell others to repent of their sins and trust Jesus alone for salvation. Good works want get us to Heaven.

Right! Repent, trust Jesus, and make damned sure you're a Roman Catholic. Haven't you heard?: "extra ecclesiam nulla salus". It's God's will. ;-)

"God tells us there is none good, but the Father which is in Heaven."

So Jesus is not good then, because he's not "the Father which is in Heaven," which means we shouldn't rely on his word or his means of salvation. Thus Christianity itself and Jesus' sacrifice are also filthy rags. Oh, and the Father in Heaven is a genocidal, egotistical madman with too much power and no scruples about using it to inflict death and pain on all of his creation, so that I guess we're all fucked then.

"As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one." Romans 3:10

...no exceptions?

Well, that's your J-boy fucked then.

So every single person who lived long before Jesus or even Judaism was a thing and everyone who couldn't possibly have the chance to hear of the bible (like indigenous tribes in the rainforests for example) is just doomed to go to hell? I'm VERY certain that's not what the bible says. The christian God is omnibenevolent, so that shit couldn't possibly fly (since they didn't even have the free will to choose, which is the normal apologetic answer to the problem of an omnibenevolent god condemning people to hell). It also reeks of the typical laziness of fundies: Oh yeah, Jesus told us to help the poor, but praying for these dirty hobos to repent and allow Jesus into their hearts is SOO much more important than actually helping them. Do I smell prosperity gospel bullshit? Because that's the net step from here.

Man Called True

"14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?
17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?
23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.
24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

James 2:14-26, KJV

Happy Atheist

I genuinely regret the bad things I do and have done. I genuinely try to be the best person I can, and do good for others. I do not believe in any gods. Thus I go to Hell.

Another person lives their life selfishly. They do what they want, take what they want, steal, rape, murder. At the end of their life they repent their sins and ask Jesus to let them into Heaven. Thus they go to Heaven.

A god that sets up this system is not worthy of respect or worship.

"As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one." Romans 3:10

Genesis 6:9: "Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God."

Your move.

So why is God supposed to be so good and just and all that?

11/4/2018 11:53:58 PM

@Happy Atheist: Yep, Jack had a whole Chick Tract about it.

Yeah the idea that blind servitude is better then actually doing things to make people's lives better. Really why don't people like him see a problem with this.

There's something fundamentally wrong with your interpretation of your religion if the very first thing out of your mouth sounds like an argument against being good for its own sake and believing the only reason anyone has to be good to be the expectation of a reward. And in the process saying that trying to be good just for that reward is pointless, making being good pointless since all that matters is being forgiven whether you're actually sorry for a single thing you've done or not.

Damn, and you all think atheist have no morals?

So, what Jesus said in Matthew 25:33-46 was just poppycock...? He didn't mean any of it?
We should just sit on our fat asses all life, and repent on our death-bed.

11/6/2018 8:19:03 AM

Yet good works shouldn't cancel out faith. If you believe in salvation though face alone and want to do good works what's wrong with that?

11/6/2018 8:46:20 AM

And this is why your God isn't just. He is merely judging for believing not in how one lives their life

11/6/2018 9:15:56 AM

Note that last Bible quote isn't from Jesus, who said the exact opposite.

Further proof that fundies are just Pharisees who want to justify being awful people, while condemning others for not following the arbitrary rules they themselves never follow.
