Most Americans: “MONARCHY IS BAAAAADDD!!”
Me, a Hawaiian: “While Hawai’i had a queen we were at the forefront of innovation, technological advancement, and international alliances. All the way up until the “democratic” government of the US illegally arrested her in her own palace and threatened to kill her and massacre her people unless she signed her country over to them. I’d like to have a queen who cares more about her peoples lives than her power again. Also, fuck Trump.”

I don't see anything relatively fundie about this. He's right that the US taking over Hawaii may or may not have been an improvement for the island, considering no one bothered to ask them before the Americans just took it. At the same time, forefront of innovation? I don't think so.
At least, unlike Puerto Rico, they got to be a state and thus aren't still forced to cater to a narcissistic madman...
Also, fuck Trump
Damn, he's got a really good point.
All jokes aside, I'd honestly rather have a benevolent, almighty "dictator" rather than a "democracy" where orange narcissists get unlimited power for no real reason. So I get where OP's coming from.

Checks and balances, look it up.
The Orange One isn't looking very checked and balanced right now . . . especially since his major checks and balances are more concerned with their own personal power, and he's willing to stop being a check and balance on them as long as he can do what he wants. Check and balances work better . . . when they actually check each other and balance each other's excesses.
(1) Hawaiians know their own history well enough to be allowed to express that opinion.
Edit to add: Even a benevolent monarch can't last forever, and that's the problem. Can you imagine either of those subnormal and completely amoral Trump boys inheriting the throne?
(2) "Fuck Trump" isn't an opinion. It's a heartfelt wish.
I don't say that monarchy is bad, as long as it's a representative monarchy. It's just that having lived my entire life as an American without any royalty, I don't see any reason to have royalty, and democracies are so much better than straight "what the monarch says, goes" type monarchies.
Sweden is a monarchy, and sure, we're fairly high on " innovation, technological advancement, and international alliances". But I can't say that we have that much use of our monarchs. They are more of a PR bureau than any form of government body. Sure, they are pretty and pleasant, and visiting dignitaries seem to like the pomp of meeting a KING.

I concur; fuck Trump.
@Doubting Thomas
A representetive monarchy to function(assuming the monarch is to have any say in his govenrment and isn`t just a pretty ornament) would still require an elective process in choosing the monarch for each generation. So basically a democracy where regular folks vote in their reps, who then in turn would vote in the king. Big change being of course the choosing of the head of state not being directly influenced by the general citizenry.
It`s not even hard to make an arugment for that kind of system after looking at what the last elections did in US but frankly it still should require some educational and transparency gatekeeping census to make it work and if we had one in 2016, Trump would simply not be eligible for the ballot, no matter how many dim witted bigots WANTED him there.
"Absolute power corrupts absolutely."
Not even. I can give you some examples of autocratic rulers living their whole life as a benevolent "servant of their people" types but what really constitutes a problem is that usually their kids more than made up for the interruptions in the usuall violent, inbred psychos executing whomever they like programming.
So, FSTDT is full of monarchists, now?
The US has a long, storied history of overthrowing governments for ultimately idiotic reasons. I never said Monarchy is better than anything else, but the fact is, that's really the choice of the people living there. Not the choice of some assholes who live thousands of miles away and want the land for vacation purposes.
There's a difference between invading a country to overthrow a dictator who is clearly abusing the shit out of his people and overthrowing a government because you want the land for yourselves. Or because United Fruit insisted on it. Or because the country wants a fair price for their oil reserves. Or because the country wasn't "nice" enough to you. Or because COMMUNISTS!
Confused?
