It doesn't matter if he had an intention of acting on it. What makes him unique is his capacity to sexualize children. If he is at all attracted to little kids, I don't give two fucks about his actions or his brand of kiddy porn; it's dangerous for him to be around children, because unlike most people, even if he promises, we still know he day dreams about fucking kids.

I understand your sentiment, but just to play devil's advocate, how would it be any different if, say, a teacher was attracted to 18 year old girls? Is that also dangerous and firable? He hasn't (as far as we know) actually committed any crime, has he?

No he hasn't committed a crime. And no, changing the genders makes no difference. Changing the age does make a difference, I'm not talking about 18 year olds, legal adults. I'm talking about the majority of school children who are below that

I know, I get what you're saying. What I guess I'm getting at is that you're advocating firing someone based on thought crime. Like, if he liked 18 year olds (or lets say 17, since that's generally the threshold for commuting statutory rape in the US if one partner is over 21), isn't he just as likely to act on that as any other age?

I'm just curious, I don't get the big upset about person A finding person B sexually attractive provided they don't actually act on that.

totally inappropriate to expose children to anyone who sees them as sexual candidates.

I don't know. I feel like that's a very slippery slope. I'm certainly not defending actual pedophiles -- that is, people who act on their fantisies, not folks who look at literal cartoons -- but I think we're nearing questionable territory.

What if I find blonde haired people attractive? Should I not work in an environment with them? Most people would say that was a weird conclusion to jump to: just because someone finds something attractive doesn't necessarily mean that person is going to violently act on that fantasy.
