Also long time ago I did try getting myself a gun on a black market in a country with the tightest gun control on earth, couldn`t do it and not for the lack of trying. Sure, some people are better connected but just how connected would your typical US shooter be? They ain`t mafia made men, specially the kids who commit these things. While gun control might not take out all of the gun crimes, it will lower them significantly.

My daughter lost a shotgun because her luggage was delayed on her last return from the arctic. It's obvious that there are A LOT of people out there who are just sick and tired of seeing headlines with the word "gunman" in them along with body counts. But yet the Republicans, paid off by the NRA, keep going on like there's absolutely nothing we can do and ignoring the problem.
And yes, a gun is an inanimate object, but put in the hands of a homicidal maniac and it's a deadly weapon, often used to kill many people at once. The problem is that Republicans have no desire to remove deadly weapons from the hands of homicidal maniacs, and we send our children to school every day wondering if they will be the next to die. I personally don't want my wife (who works at a school) and children to die because a bunch of gun nuts don't feel safe without their noisemaker toys.
A certain someone is apparently softening his previous pro-2nd Amendment stance after Nikolas Cruz appeared in court today after that school shooting in Florida.

Speaking your mind to one of your servants-in-office (they work for you, they represent you, their salary is paid by you) is neither peace-disturbing nor terrorism! It's their effing jobs to be "confronted" by their employers. If you don't want to meet the public, don't work in government.

I know zilch about guns, I've barely even seen any (outside a policeman's holster); but can't the ammunition corrode with time, or deteriorate in some other way, making it dangerous even just lying around?

How long this takes depends on the type of ammunition and the storage conditions (mainly temperature and humidity variations). Ordinary small arms ammunition of decent quality should be good to use for minimum 10 years if properly stored, and it will probably be another 10 years after that before it becomes hazardous to store. This is why God invented industrial demilitarization :-)

The black market for illegal firearms being what it is, if someone wants a gun, they can get one. So yeah, if you ask me about guns in the US, I certainly believe that fundamental changes are needed, but not only to the gun laws. Also to the way these laws are enforced, and to the very culture surrounding guns in the US. But I freely admit that that's just my 5 Eurocents worth, as a non-US citizen.

Target shooting I give you but not hunting as that is killing animals. Guns are weapons made to kill any other purpose is secondary. Even target shooting is just using the killing g ability of guns on non living targets.
I am pro-gun and proudly pro-gun. I own a gun for protection. But they are made for killing.
I agree that targeting illegal guns should be then first thing we the USA should do. The government shouldn't take away peoples guns but should go after illegal firearms.
