[Response to an article about zookeepers' efforts to protect zoo animals during Hurricane Irma]
..fuck zoos..
..fuck (too many) humans..
..fuck speciesism..
..pardon my French..
..why not just shoot the precious innocent non-human sentient beings in the head..
..and save them the suffering and torture of drowning et al?
..I hate humans..

Would you rather have, for example, pythons running amok everwhere? (Which actually happened during Andrew, when a facility housing them was destroyed)
Casse-toi, trout de cul!
Pardon my French.
Well, we found Amos Moses's favorite punctuation vendor.
Zoos are very important to scientific research on animals as well as conservation efforts and rehabilitating injured or sick animals so they can go back into the wild (or barring that, at least be happy and live a longer life in the zoo). There was once a time where no consideration was given to the animal's natural habitat, leaving many to be left in barren cages, but that time is over and zoos these days give lots of consideration to the animals' environmental needs.
Some animal rights activists argue that zoos should only exist for rehab purposes. But the thing is, that costs a lot of money. Allowing visitors in helps, but only so much and besides, most of these activists believe that letting paying customers view animals is a form of exploitation in itself. That, and I doubt they'd be okay with zoos purposefully injuring animals just to have animals to heal-- which might happen to prevent the zoo from folding if they get a dry spell. By partnering with scientists and conservationists, they can receive more grant money and donations which can be used find better ways to help rehab animals or to simply understand them more. This also gives them things to do when they're not rehabbing animals.
So, humans trying to save animals are bad because they're humans trying to save and persevere animals (the purpose of zoos), and they should instead treat them like they would humans (try to save/protect them)... and I've gone cross-eyed...
Some people seem allergic to thinking their views through...
fuck zoos
...so you want to have sex with those who have a thing for animals?
'Kinky...! '
Hedy... er, I mean Hedle y Lamarr (Harvey Korman), "Blazing Saddles"
That entire blog is a goldmine of fundie vegan quotes. The author/blog owner thinks nobody (including Masai and Inuit) actually hunt for food and that it's all psychopathic bloodlust. And no dissenting comments are allowed.
Also, there are numerous species which would be extinct without captive breeding in zoos. California condors, European bison, Espanola giant tortoises, Lord Howe Island stick insects, Arabian oryxes, scimitar horned oryxes, Przewalski's wild horses and Grand Cayman iguanas are only a small percentage. Vegans have said they'd rather have species go extinct than have to live in captivity, which greatly contributes to my "obsessive" hate for them.
Confused?
