I recently submitted this comic to the site, but I accidentally pasted the image URL twice in the submission form. Can a mod fix this?

ETA: Thanks.

@SpukiKitty: Try Imgur.

@Pharaoh: I can put them in the FAQ, which will be up this afternoon or tomorrow, depending on whether the husband and I spend another night at my parents'. Scouts honor!

@SomeApe: Yep, it's a leftover.

@pyro: That's definitely going to be a thing.

@Daspletosaurus: I think another mod fixed it.

The People's Court is on TV in the background. The people on there are fucking craaaazzy.

Also, here's some silliness from actual interlinear glosses¹ in a few linguistics books² I'm browsing through. Too much work to Romanize or paste any original Korean, Japanese, Sanskrit, etc., so I'll just include the glosses when the original is not already Romanized:

French (my specialty!)

[Will add moar later if this stuff amuses anyone else.]

I don't get all the abbreviations. NOM is nomen, ACC is accusative i guess but HON-TOP?

PERF–DECL is this declinated perfect?

Edit: Just remembered what I originally wanted to write in this thread before shy distracted me with his language-fu! :D

I did some transcripts for some quotes with pics and superimposed text. Is this appreciated? I'm not sure if it makes much of sense on cartoony pics. Describing the pictures in detail might not really be worth it. What do you guys think? I offer my help but I think I lack the language skills to describe the detailed comic style stuff in a way that it's still fun to read when the picture is gone.

There are blind people reading this site. They need the transcripts.

Sarcasm? If so:

I think transcripts are needed if we want to call this an archive.

If you are talking about those Whisper images; In most cases, they seem to be completely random, and even when not, the connection is usually rather loose. So unless it actually emphasises the point or is a particularly baffling choice, I would omit the description of the image, or, actually, the image itself and just submit the subscribed test.

Sounds like Pierre and Jane have an interesting relationship! Also, the literal translations compared to the idiomatic ones are weird at times. A French kiss is a skate? LOL...I think I've run into that myself, trying to translate some foreign language in Google. I tried to run a lengthy description of a DVD from a Japanese website through Google Translate once...that was weird, to say the least. I wish I had saved that somewhere, actually.

7/8/2017 5:26:56 PM

@KingofRhye: Someone should do a story based on this "relationship." If nothing else, it would be, erm, "different" in a vaguely Céline et Julie kind of way.

I'm a fluent French speaker, but a lot of these idioms are actually pretty odd to me. I can still understand them without any problem, but they're mostly heard only in France French. (The French I speak is more or less "educated" Quebecois. Most of the real-world French I have been exposed to comes from living in Canada as a kid and from practicing almost exclusively with Canadian French speakers when I was studying the language in college.)

"Avoir du chien" really threw me off, though, because of how it has completely different meanings in Quebecois French and France French. The France meaning is most likely the intended one, because it makes wayyy more sense in context, and as far as I can tell, the other "non-standard" idiomatic peculiarities are France'y. But rolling people skates is a thing in both varieties.

@SomeApe: Sure, very much so! Even if there weren't blind people reading the site, the images might go down. Feel free to edit any quote to add a transcription!!

Thought so. Looks like...

...has a talent to transcript ;)

That pic is The Literal Awesome!!!
I hope you do more 'iffues', Pharao!

Edit: no it's the Incarnation Of Awesome!

I only realised now that the default blackletter font lacks a long s, anyways. Fortunately, I have now downloaded one that does, and looks even edgier to boot!

Is there some way to search for a quote by Quote #?

Nevermind, figured out you could just insert the # in

Shy, is it possible to introduce support for some of the Slavic characters? For instance:

c c ž d š l

In the above examples, 'c', 'C', 'd', 'l' and 'L' aren't supposed to be the characters you see above.

7/23/2017 4:32:50 AM

It's the lack of Unicode/UTF-8 support for the current database. That'll be partially fixed in 3-4 months when an early beta of the site goes live. Unicode will initially be supported using a cheap "hack" to make it work with the current database while I get the new PostgreSQL database up and running. When it is, this issue will finally be truly, fully fixed.

Thank you :)

I found an article about the controversy surrounding the so-called "halalization of China" on the internet and in China. Some think its harmless, others see it as a threat to national unity and the start of "Muslim privilege"--
and there's also the issue of if companies truly care about Muslims or are just using the halal label for easy money. While its entirely in English, it shows the way various users names look in Chinese as well as the Chinese lettering of words that are best understood in Chinese.

First off, I want to make sure that the Chinese characters in the article will not fuck up the website (if so, I will remove them). Nevermind, they seem to be fine.

But also, I wanted to know if the excerpts from the article belong on RSTDT or FSTDT. This issue involves nationalism as well as religious exploitation-- which one takes priority?

Also, the article has many good pictures, all with captions, but I worry that it makes the post too long. Should I only include some pictures, no pictures, or all pictures that apply to the excerpts given?

The article is here if you want to take a look at it for yourself:

Hey Shy I got the wrong link for quote #129724
Here's the correct link The author name is unknow.

7/26/2017 11:38:57 AM

(In airport, too lazy to log in.)

Dunno if this was on any previous discussion, but what about a FSTDT API? Could use it to pull/search quotes automatically and trawl the data. I could see it being useful for burgeoning data analysts, seeing if they could identify trends in posting behaviour for religious nutjobs, racists, and so on.

Insult to Rocks

I'd just like to express my thanks to the people submitting left-wing and anarchist fundies. They are a refreshing bastion of lunacy compared to the drudgery that is the alt-right. It's nice to have a broader perspective, too.
