Quote# 127012

Oklahoma lawmakers have passed legislation that would require officials to consider abortion to be murder.

The Tulsa World reported a law was passed Monday afternoon that would force any state official to defy the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized privacy for the procedure. It was also done without any discussion or debate on the House floor.

The bill’s author, Republican state Rep. Chuck Strohm, spoke after the bill’s passage claiming the high court violated “every act of decency and law” when it decided Roe v. Wade. He declared the founding documents of the United States were abused by “forcing the murder of unborn children on our society.”

He went on to tell his fellow officials that they took an oath to uphold the Constitution and “to exercise their authority as appropriate in their respective jurisdictions to stop the murder of innocent unborn children by abortion.”

While the Republican state official would force the hand of his fellow lawmakers, the legislation actually has no official bearing on the law itself. So, women could not be prosecuted for the procedure using this new law, it merely forces the rhetoric and commentary by elected officials, which might violate the First Amendment.

Strohm insisted the 10th and 14th amendments to the Constitution mean “no one — not a doctor, not a father or a mother — has rights that allow them to murder an unborn child” and the Supreme Court didn’t have the authority to decide the case.

Oklahoma is suffering from a nearly $900 million budget shortfall for which the legislature has yet to pass a budget to fix.

Republican state Rep. Chuck Strohm, one more fundie who thinks that 'baby' or 'child' is 'what an ovum becomes at fertilization'.

"Oklahoma is suffering from a nearly $900 million budget shortfall for which the legislature has yet to pass a budget to fix."

That's because they're spending their time on more important things. /sarcasm

And I bet they'll extend not offering support to mother as negligent homicide

Is that how it works? Because I'm pretty sure the Supreme Court's opinion on what the Constitution says overrides yours, there, (af)chief.

Somewhere, an "incel" is masturbating furiously to this story.

They can fill that budget hole by taxing Planned Parenthoods millions from the baby parts sales.

Strohm seems to subscribe to the afchief doctrine of legal analysis.

It's about to suffer a lot bigger budget shortfall when it gets the everloving fuck sued out of it for trying to enforce this.

How much money has he donated to healthcare and housing for born children of poor mothers, or for unwanted born children? How many unwanted born children has he adopted? How many dead-beat dads has he forced to provide for their born children? (It does tend to get irksome to specify unborn child or born child all the time, doesn't it? Perhaps that's why we usually call the later "children" and the former "embryos"/"fetuses"?)

Doesn't the constitution have something about equal protection? Are men forced to care for every sperm?
Can we force every "pro-life" person (regardless of gender, really) to go through this: Man experiencing simulated labor pains

Are unborn children citizens? Does he count his age from his dad's squirting into his mum? Does he call a couple pregnant with their first child "parents", does he say that "they have a child" or that "they are going to have a child"/"they are expecting a child"?

Sounds like Oklahoma has YUGE problems already, and doesn't need an increase of unwanted children who need food, healthcare, somewhere to live and someone to care for them...

Women have always had abortions, since the first proto-human realized that some plants and fungi dislodged the embryo from the womb. No-one seemed to cared much (the Bible even says how it's done) until abortions could be done safely in hospitals... When many kids died before their fifth birthday, kids were more of a burden than a blessing, and the woman was more valuable than the kid; why waste resources on a child that didn't seem able to reach that important fifth birthday, when they could finally be an asset and not a burden? Let's ditch this loser-child, and let the woman have another, hopefully stronger, child? Ever read Hansel and Gretel? Know what it's actually about? Pre-birth abortion is preferably to post-birth "abortion", I'd say.

Yeah, I don't see this holding up in court.

It won't, but that's not the point. The point is for Republican-controlled states to keep making up these stupid laws, hoping that either everyone gets sick of fighting them and one gets through, or that the SC of the US flips conservative enough for them to make abortion illegal.

I think you'll find that Article 3 gives them that authority.

Old joke: the reason Texas doesn't float off into the Gulf: Oklahoma sucks.

You idiots are almost a billion in the hole on your budget, but this bit of pointless posturing is what you focus on? I thought you were supposed to be governing the state, not bullshitting on the taxpayer dime. You have more important shit to do: Do it!

...so this 'legislation' is merely symbolic?

Therefore it's a load of symbollocks.

Why hasn't Donald Fart signed an 'Executive Order' on the issue, hmmmm...?!

I'm glad to see they're tackling the important things, like passing an unconstitutional law which symbolically calls abortion "murder." Fucking idiots who vote Republican deserve what they get. Unfortunately, the rest of us sane voters get screwed, too, as I know all too well from living in the only slightly less red state to the north of Oklahoma.
