or, well, _a_ right point at least. _the_ right point would involve pointing out this missile strike was nothing to do with anyone outside of the USA; it was a publicity stunt for the domestic market exclusively. plus, if the point had ever been to stop insert-random-name-here from using chemical weaponry, this strike was not a very effective way to go about it.
as for what it actually cost, that's near impossible to work out given the inaccuracies of military accounting, and the fact that the greatest share of the price tag was likely in opportunity costs. (two destroyers will now be needing major reloading before they can do much else, no small task.) we can only hope they were firing old TLAMs, near the end of their shelf life, so as to keep the overall cost down. but i'd not count on the pentagon to be that smart.

I'll grant you that $150 million could feed a lot of poor people in say Ethiopia, or Los Angeles, but on the other hand we already spent money on those missiles, we don't get it back if we don't shoot them.
And there is, in theory, a deterrent effect - if we do nothing, tomorrow it might be 72,000 people gassed. It might be some other country. But, again in theory, now the leaders who would do that have to weigh the value of doing so against the possibility of having their shit blown up. So it could well save many more lives in the future through deterrence, but of course it's hard to see evidence of crime not committed.

They're dangerous, wherever they are, and need to be called out wherever they are. If their ideas go unchallenged, Very Bad Thing happen...and you might be surprised at just how fast.
