Excuse me but I need to get a bit bitchy here, suppose I have something to say, at this time trying to get my first LP going...
I might be positively old in the video game world, being almost to 30, the shareware wolf being the first game I can remember playing and while I hate sounding like a porch infesting grandma, stuff used to be done with more integrity back in my days: We had paperbacks, sometimes not even that cheap which aside from free demo discs you bought mostly for the proffesional, often humorous reviews. Sure, those were of better and worse quality as with all things, I rememberour national edition of PC Gamer being rather solid with their material, hell I remember one of our other periodics regularly punishing crappy titles with 1s and 2s on the decimal scale. these redactors were not fanboys, they subscribed to the press standards as would any other specialist press editor worth their salt.
Nowadays, something happened and now we have immature fanboys and fangirls running what should be a venue for informing the audience of crappy, unfinished products and scummy practices(yeah, this here is precisely why I was initially very much pro gamergate). The very words "Get Hype" sound to my mind as if someone just puked over my intellect, I don`t get hyped, I wait till I know for certain if our money will be well invested or not. This downfall also helped the most scummy of the snake oil selling dipshits to kick their preorders, dlc(those were called either mods and were freely made by the community or were big burly half-games called expansion packs) and other such brutal, insulting sales tactics into overdrive. Now, I`m sad and feel abandoned(if not for the indie market, which we both with hubbz immensly enjoy), imagine me a great Warhammer enthusiast and even bigger Total War fan not being able to buy herself the ultimate combo of the two because of the odious practices used by the publisher(walling armies behind preorders and then selling any new content for premium price, pricing units, anyone who`s interested in
TW franchise knows of what I speak). So I weep silently and wait till Sega finally finishes with milking their new cow and spreads their legs, so to speak at the next big sale, never really understanding why can`t we have a single game with all the content for the price they ask of me and then perhaps an expansion about a year down the line with new factions, maps and mechanics...
This is the culture the younger gamers have been fostering and this is why now people seem to think that if you can take the money and make a crypto-advertisment, you have all the moral right to do so, worse you`re gonna be some sort of ... chan haunting antisocial psycho not to do so and condemn the practice in any way. Well I do condemn it, I wouldn`t want to take the option away, if you really take money for your LPs and it really keeps you afloat, you have my condolences but not my understanding and praise. I do believe LPs, very much like video games themselves should only ever be a hobby, unless you`re engaged in creating one, then again I also believe they should be a clever riff on the game(and anything you can put into the spectacle) more than some person making random scared noises or just playing with little to no commentary at all. De gustibus I suppose, but here`s the rant concerning why exactly some might see lets players shamelesly taking corporate cash as a bad and ultimately degenerating influence to the hobby they love.
