(Excerpt from an e-mail sent out by Bill Donohue celebrating the failure of a bill that would have made it easier for victimcs of sexual abuse to bring cases against their abusers)

The bill was sold as justice for the victims of sexual abuse, when, in fact, it was a sham: the proposed legislation that failed to make it to the floor of the New York State legislature in the wee hours of Saturday (the session that began on Friday ended at 5:00 a.m. the next day), was a vindictive bill pushed by lawyers and activists out to rape the Catholic Church.

If the statute of limitations were lifted on offenses involving the sexual abuse of minors, the only winners would be greedy and bigoted lawyers out to line their pockets in a rash of settlements. The big losers would be the poor, about whom the attorneys and activists care little: When money is funneled from parishioners to lawyers, services to the needy suffer. The Catholic League is proud of its role in this victory.

Surely this isn't the end.

Why doesn't the Vatican want to punish it's bad apples? What do they gain? Are they too stupid to realize that cover-ups only make them look worse?

I get that your hard-up for priests. You know; If you make celibacy optional and allow women to be priests, surely the priest-shortage would end!

It's almost as if kidfiddling was an essential "8th Sacrament" of Catholic clergy. How could so many kidfidders be concentrated in one place? You'd think it would be a perversion that's sorta rare and niche in humanity, yet a bunch are coincidentally Roman Catholic clergy and they are gathered in one place.

There MUST be a way to clean the corrupt out of the Vatican.

Have fun hemorrhaging members due to your inability to adapt to changing society and general inability and unwillingness to do anything about the sickos in your ranks.

Roman Catholicism: The spiritual/religious stuff is okay, the rituals/mysticism/art is magnificent....but much of the social doctrines and leaders are evil crap!

Roman Catholics should make the big switch to "High Church" Episcopalian/Anglican/Lutheranism or join Liberal Catholic churches! One can still be "Roman Catholic" in spirit.

All roads lead to Deity and the many Christian Schisms are simply branches of the Great Tree of Christendom. That's how I interpret "The Parable of the Mustard Seed".

I'd normally feel enraged at this injustice....and I still do.

However; I'm channeling my anger into peace....They will be punished, eventually. This law WILL be passed in one form or another. Roman Catholicism is slowly dying, the churches are closing down....The guys on top will eventually have no choice but to allow women, abolish mandatory celibacy, relax or eliminate rules against contraception, gays & divorce AND put the smackdown on the pervs.

The world is growing sick of frummerism.

And the Laws of Karma and Return still reign.

KARMA - Involves simply "Cause & Effect". Payback for actions that have either good or bad consequences for good or ill.

LAW OF RETURN - Like Karma but involves a more direct "Reward/Punishment" for consciously "Just/Unjust" actions.

I Decided to invent two new terms....ORIKARMA & OCCIKARMA.

ORIKARMA (Orient/Karma) - "Eastern Karma". The Original meaning of "Karma". The "Cause/Effect" one.

OCCIKARMA (Occident/Karma) - "Western Karma". What Westerners often thinkof when they think of "Karma. The "Reward/Punishment" for "Just/Unjust" actions version. The Law of Return.

Occikarma has a more conscious "Good & Evil" thing to it and is mainly reaped in either this life or the Hereafter. Orikarma is more vague and not necessarily connected to morality and is more something one reaps anytime.

What we call a "Karma Houdini" is simply a bad person who somehow is reaping his/her past Orikarmic (and some Occikarmic) at this moment. The merit will eventually run out and the Karmic/Return demerits will eventually kick in (in this life, the next life or the hereafter).

As long as the good and just keep making a noise and fight for justice, the unjust and evil WILL GET THEIR COMEUPPANCE!

The wheels of justice are slow. Vote the obviously wingnut Judges out! Vote in Progressive ones! Resubmit the bill! Bring on the protests! JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED!

THIS WILL NOT BE OVER UNTIL THE PERVS GET PUNISHED!

THE MEEK (THAT IS 'THE LITTLE GUY/JOE-JANE Q. NOBODY') WILL INHERIT THE EARTH!!!

I may be a NeoPagan but I'm also an Interfaith/Universalist. I respect True Christianity....the Liberal, Peacenik Religion of Kindness, Compassion, Charity, Tolerance Of 'The Others', Forgiveness and all things LOVE.

True Christians....that is the so-called "Liberal/Progressive/Moderate/Non-Frum" ones need to reclaim and reboot Christianity!

With that; They should accept, at least as a metaphor, some Gnostic elements. The concept of "The Demiurge" must be major and applied to all faiths. Any scripture that promotes bigotry, repression, bloodshed and general stupidity must be regarded as invalid and Demiurgic. "The Demiurge" means "Half-Maker" and should be regarded as a metaphor as opposed to a literal Divine. The Demiurge is a perversion of The Divine, "Deity Made In The Image of the Bigoted & Corrupt Powerful".

This also holds true for even Polytheistic Pantheons. The Classical Greco-Roman Pantheon is so Demiurgic that it's disgusting. The Divine and the worldview espoused is written as, "Don't question or usurp authority. Take what they dish out on you, be it rape or unjust and capricious punishments. The Elite are better than you and they can and have the right rape/mistreat you as they please because they deserve it. Don't challenge the status quo. Fatalism rules!"

SCREW THAT NOISE! SOME THINGS CAN CHANGE! THE POWERS OF GAIA, NEMESIS AND THE FATES WOULD, IN REALITY, GIVE THE OLYMPIANS A MAJOR GROUNDING FOR BEING RAPEY JERKASSES. THE TRUE YHWH/ALLAH/CHRIST IS NOT A SEXIST, HOMOPHOBIC, GENOCIDAL, PURITAN, TYRANT! The Leaders/Priests/Prophets twisted The Abrahamic-Deity into that!

If religions are to survive, they must change OR DIE!

Sometimes; I wonder if, considering the content of my posts here, if I'd be better off being a Universalist/Interfaith-thinking ChristoPagan.

The Vatican has an institutional attitude from 400 years ago that it 's the highest authority on earth and can do whatever it wants. Times have changed but that attitude still exists.

You know how American fundies want to live in the 1950s? With the Vatican it's the 1550s.

Gods commands are eternal and never ever change. What "God" "said" in 1550 is just as true today as it was then, and it must still be obeyed today. This prevents them from reacting to current conditions except to act like 1550 frummers.

Translation: we don't care about our victims, we care about our money. Fuck your trauma, deal with it.

Don't pretend you give a rat's ass about the poor. You care about funneling their cash into the church's coffers and protecting pedophile priests from prosecution, probably because it's a bigger fucking epidemic than the media is letting on. That's it.

I've been aware of this horrible excrement called Bill Donohue for over a decade. When I first heard of him he was defending pedophiliac priests way back, Catholics won't ever fix this inherent systematic sickness in their ranks but they'll invest many people and much money to suppress and defend the offenders.

That tell us all we need to know about organized religion.

That "out to rape the Catholic Church" is well planned, this is the arrogant shout to the law and justice that's made him a popular right wing guest. "mericans in particular like to see church reps just rudely deny anyones authority over them and Donuhues entire career has been that and dissing other religions or Atheists.

At what point do we not all recognize the sentiment "I answer only to God" is straight out admission you refuse to live by the laws of the land and can't be trusted.

It should be noted that Donohue doesn't speak in the name of the Catholic Church and doesn't represent all American Catholics. The percentage of more liberal thinking Catholics in the US shouldn't be underestimated. And, once more bishops become appointed by Pope Francis, Donohue will find himself receiving less and less invitations.

The movement inside the church to get things cleaned up and recognize the church's own fault is stronger than many care to see. Donohue's blanket denial and persecution complex are counter-productive. If he had to answer to the Pope, he'd be sweeping floors in the Vatican basement by now.

I sure hope so!

As horrid as the conduct of some of the Catholic clergy have been....I still respect it as a religious path.

I certainly am against it's teachings on contraception, abortion, gays, women, etc. HOWEVER the religious spiritual & mystic elements are fine. The art is beautiful!

The Catholic Church does have it's own tradition of Artists, Philosophers, Poets, Sages and other thinkers.

As grody as their whole Anti-Abortion thing is....they do embrace the "Consistent Life Ethic"....If you're going to be "Pro-Life", you got to live up to that moniker and oppose The Death Penalty, Unjust/Unnecessary Warfare as well (along with promoting charity and helping the downtrodden).

Many in charge may be full of corrupt, money-grubbing, power-hungry, misogynist, perverted meatheads....but The Roman Catholic Church does at least....at best....talk much about the importance of charity, life, mercy, helping others, etc.

For a while, many would even say that one could get a better, more well-rounded education at a Catholic school than a Public one....and they didn't push their religion on you if you were a non-Catholic.

To a point, the Catholic Church is perfectly fine with modern science, evolution, the possibility of there being extraterrestrial life and even the concept of not taking EVERYTHING in the Bible, literally.

I love the ornate churches, the rituals, the chants, the different types of devotions and meditations.

As patriarchal as they are, they surprisingly....albeit indirectly....have a devotion to The Feminine. Many Saints are Female and Mother Mary is a HUGE deal!

To an untrained eye....it's almost....quasi-PAGAN!

Though I no longer practice that faith, I would love to see it reform itself and quit being a bunch of slimeballs! There's a lot of good in there and a lot of good they could do and most clergy and Religious are good people who want to serve Deity & Community....

....but The Vatican needs to clean house! They need to stay true to the ideals of Vatican II, they need to nix their stupid ideas concerning sexuality, contraception and women, accept LGBTAs, allow women in the Priesthood, make the Priesthood "celibacy-optional" and purge and prosecute all the abusers!
