The facts may tell you one thing. But, God is not limited by the facts. Choose faith in spite of the facts.

Choose faith in spite of the facts.
It is absolutely your right to do that, if you so choose. But don’t be surprised if no one is taking you seriously.
“What are the facts? Again and again and again what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore divine revelation, forget what “the stars foretell,” avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable “verdict of history” what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your single clue. Get the facts!”

Quite right! Drink poison! Handle poisonous snakes! Jump into a fiery furnace! Smoke at the gas pump! If anything happens to you, like the predictable outcome, I guess you didn't have quite enough faith. Aw. Poor stupid you.
Thank you for reaffirming my atheism. If 'god' is not limited by the facts (and he certainly is not supported by the facts), then he and his actions and his worship can be dispensed with altogether on this factual, material earth.
Whenever I see a photo of Joel Osteen, all I can think of is "Last time I saw something with that many teeth, it was trying to kill Ellen Ripley!"
How can anyone take that toothy con artist seriously?!
I think what Joel meant was that no matter how bad things are you should have hope in God. Even if all the 'facts' say you will not make it, you should have hope that you will make it from whatever trouble you are in. I have seen him preach, his messages tend to be focused on inspirational, 'you can make it type' messages. I think he is okay because messages focus on inspiring people not spreading hate or trying to convince people that science is a lie.
Confused?
