"Apparently, to some, it’s legitimate for states to try to promote “bathroom bills” and other anti-LGBT legislation, but it’s crossing a line for a corporation to take as stand against discrimination. Target, as the first national retailer to publicly weigh in on the LGBT subject publicly, is bearing the brunt of conservative anti-LGBT activism."
This opinion piece by Patricia Ramirez is about as ridiculous as Target's Kumbaya inclusiveness. She's dead wrong or possibly just a bad liar. Everyone and I do mean EVERYONE knows full well that bathroom bills aren't "anti-LGBT legislation", but (now necessary) intended safety mechanisms that while not 100% foolproof provide a modicum of safeguards for women and children in public.
Further, as a conservative, I'm unaware of ANY "anti-LGBT activism". If common sense practices are considered "anti-LGBT activism", Target that should change it's name to Pander, and the rest of the leftist loony liberals should look to themselves. Who would have thought 20-30 years ago that cities, counties and/or states would have to legislate ordinances and laws to protect women from others who legislate to give sexual predators carte blanche to pursue their crimes and obsessions in public restrooms? Ms. Ramirez, get over yourself - everything isn't about LGBT's or BLM or Occupy whatever.

Show us those sexual predators then, show us but one and then fucking explain what are you doing to protect the safety of lgbts in the said bathroom, are they not amongst the women and children? Of course not, not for you anyway. This is why we will not listen to your idiotic complaints and instead will roll over and enforce the abandonment of these sick bills without asking your permission. The moment you understand just how many transfolks are actualy children, really in danger in the wrong bathrooms, especially mtf`s we can talk but not before.

Who would have thought that 40-50 years ago that cities states and counties would legislate ordinances to prevent Christians from enforcing gods anti race mixing laws in public restrooms?

Ms McConnel, get over yourself. You're just the latest hater who claims your hate is authorized by a giant man with a long white beard who lives on clouds.
This is someone who genuinely can't believe anyone could think any differently from her, based on "Everyone and I do mean EVERYONE." I don't feel that way and I bet none of the serious commenters here do either, but to fit into her worldview, I have to be lying, because no one could possibly think that these bathroom bills were actually bigotry.
If this woman's viewpoints weren't so horrendous, I would pity her.
EVERYONE knows full well that bathroom bills aren't "anti-LGBT legislation"
Bull. Shit.
but (now necessary) intended safety mechanisms that while not 100% foolproof provide a modicum of safeguards for women and children in public.
To solve a problem which never existed in the first place.
Face it, you've been sharing public restrooms with transgendered people for decades without complaint, but as soon as gay people get the right to marry, conservatives have to fall back on trying to dictate which bathroom people use because "those people are icky."
Besides, if someone wanted to dress up as a woman in order to find a young girl in a public restroom to ogle or rape, no law is going to stop them. Just look at how loudly conservatives whine about "criminals will always get guns."
@Skidie
explain what are you doing to protect the safety of lgbts in the said bathroom, are they not amongst the women and children?
Of course not. To conservatives, "transgendered" means "a man dressing up as a woman for the sole purpose of gaining access to our young, innocent girls to molest."

I've found that this is a common trait among right-wingers. Just look at all the campaign signs which say "The silent majority stands with Trump." They really do think that the vast majority of the country agrees with them, and only a few liberals disagree. I've noticed a tendency of conservatives to live in an echo chamber by only watching Fox News and surrounding themselves with like-minded people. It's called communal reinforcement. If everyone you know agrees with you, then that means your beliefs must be right.
So several musicians cancelling shows and businesses pulling out of possible job placements in North Carolina isn't activism?
Also, why is it always to protect the women and children? You know there's dangers lurking for the men too.
Who would have thought 20-30 years ago that cities, counties and/or states would have to legislate ordinances and laws to protect women from others who legislate to give sexual predators carte blanche to pursue their crimes and obsessions in public restrooms?
Bullshit.
You present your solution for a problem that doesn't exist and when people call you out because your solution creates real problems, you try and play the "Why does no one think of the children" card.
A transwoman using the women's bathroom isn't harassing anyone. And even if she would, aren't there already laws against that? So what purpose do those "bathroom bills" serve, if not to try and pander to your trans- and homophobic base, and unfortunately hurting transsexuals?
"from others who legislate to give sexual predators carte blanche to pursue their crimes and obsessions in public restrooms"
Did not know there were people trying to make laws that forced sexual preditors into bathrooms of the opposite sex. Sadly we cannot use 'common sense' to determine if this is a lie.
Whenever I hear folks defending these bathroom bills, I wonder how many people they interact with are trans and they have no freaking clue. The mail man might not have been a male man. The nice waitress who always brings you a refill before you ask for it might not have been born that way. They're just people going about their daily lives.
It just disgusts me that a genuinely marginalized segment of the population was finally starting to get treated like, ya know, HUMAN BEINGS and then this "religious freedom" shit started specifically to hurt them.
Oh and a trans woman is much more likely to get abused in a men's room than she is to do any abusing in a women's room. What about her safety?!
Fuckers...
Kid Cthulhu has spoken.
Liar! They're anti-LGBTA.
"Kumbaya" was Jesus' M.O. You should try it sometime. Bleeding Hearts are HUMAN hearts!
According that law, Buck Angel would have to go to the Ladies' Room....

....This is Buck Angel. Sooooo, you be fine with a guy like this doing #1 & #2 alongside "those precious little girl-children"?
All transfolk should use the bathrooms of their previous assigned gender as a protest...just to show the ludicrousness of these laws.
Then the Far-Right needs to accept that they lost the Culture Wars, give up and move to Russia or Uganda.
@ Kuno
So what purpose do those "bathroom bills" serve
Most likely giving Republican politicians a reason for their base to vote for them, since they can no longer run on promises to prevent gay marriage. Have you noticed that what restroom transgendered people use was never an issue until gay marriage was legalized? Now they're scrambling to find other possible ways to discriminate, such as passing laws giving business owners the right to discriminate and trying to regulate bathroom usage.
Confused?
