Quote# 114755

Today, the word “Patriarchy” is a dirty word. We hear from the left that it is oppressive; we hear from the right that it is abused. There are websites across the internet dedicated to the downfall of patriarchy. Funny thing, normally, what the world sees as bad, the Bible sees as good. We see in the Bible that Patriarchy is sprinkled throughout. I would like to show what true Patriarchy is and why so many men and women are actually happier in a patriarchal family; the worldview that so many disdain.

“There has been 6% increase in women staying at home in the past decade as women realize what is more important; family.”

Patriarchy, or simply defined as, “Father Ruled,” is scattered all throughout the Bible. We see in Genesis that God made man first and later created a woman because, “It was not good that man was alone.” God made a beautiful woman to be a helper to the man. This role was designed and instituted by God to display an attribute of Himself. The Hebrew word for “helper” is only used again throughout the Bible in describing God Himself to His people. This is how high and lofty a woman’s calling is. When the woman sinned, God went to Adam first because the Man was the one who was primarily responsible. We see Adam, the man, being the ruler of his house. This is the quintessential prototype of the family.

Moving past creation, the use of covenants and genealogies were centered around the Men/Heads of Households (Gen 35, 36, Ex 6, 1 Chron 4, Matt 1). Yes, we also see that there are women listed in these genealogies (Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Uriah’s wife [Bathsheba], and Mary to name a few). However, everyone knows that the exception to the rule, proves there is a rule. This pattern clearly shows that familial lines transferred through the males. God established his covenants through male representatives; it was to men and their offspring. We struggle thinking this is unfair; it is important to note that this is not unfair. God is not being unjust by putting men in charge. God is not a tyrannical dictator nor is His design for this—because we are created in His image (Gen 1:26-27). If you think God is unfair, just remember, what is fair, is for God to annihilate all mankind, for we have sinned before His Holiness. Every breath we have been given is a gift; this unfairness mentality that is pervasive in this culture is childish, immature, arrogant, and sinful. Rejoice that life isn’t fair!

“Men are 40% more likely than women to be the victim of a violent crime. Patriarchy abuses women is a lie; rape culture is a lie.”

Under a patriarchal family; all of a woman’s needs are taken care of. She is freed up to take care of her precious little ones, instead of needing to worry about where the next meal will come from. When the father dies, the eldest son (typically) takes over his father’s responsibilities. This would have included caring for and protecting, his mother, brothers, sisters, and their families, as well as managing the father’s estate and possessions. In a loving Patriarchal family, the women of the family were under the caring protection of the head of the household. These women were under their responsibility; if there was abuse, the man was ultimately held responsible before God.

Men were designed to be rulers over their households. Women were designed to be man’s helper as he takes dominion. When man fulfills his role, he is satisfied; when woman fulfills her role, she is satisfied. Issues arise when the man or woman is fighting their role; men shirking responsibility or women trying to usurp man’s authority. Because of sin and this cursed world, we have people head butting, creating abuse and oppression. The 21st century mindset is the opposite of this way of living.

The essence of Patriarchy is Biblical. When it is pure and loving, women flourish. A woman is most happy when she is submitting to God, which means submission to his design. Patriarchy is the familial system that is interwoven throughout the entire Bible. It brings purpose to both men and to women. It is a beautiful picture of Christ and His Church—His Bride. What better example to give our children is there than that?

Patriarchy is power of the father. Good luck when said father is an arsehole.

As for patriarchy being biblical, well, I cannot say I am surprised. I have yet to find anything vile that cannot be traced to the bible.
I do not submit to any god. Nor should any woman I take as mate. The only domination/submission I practice is fun and games in the bedroom. The rest is oppression.
As for the church, it has invariably condoned oppression. It has failed the message it is supposed to carry: not the Paul version, the original one, the one found in the words of the guy called Jesus. Love thy neighbour, peace on Earth for all people of goodwill? The church has trampled that time and time again over the centuries. It has spun nonsensical tales to keep its hold on people. It has been cowed over the last decades because concurrent philosophies have finally managed to emerge, but if left unchecked, it will once again spoil everything. The church is not an example for the children to follow, it is an hegemonic party that needs to be kept in check, if not worse.

So true

The essence of Patriarchy is Biblical.

All the more reason to relegate it to the dustbin of history. A patriarchal society is an outdated mode of thinking.

I am a guy and I don't want to "rule" my household. I want to find a partner that is co-equal with me, someone where we can share everything - good & bad, ups & downs. Even though I'm gay, I am NOT looking for a doormat - I want an equal partner in everything.

Lilly, if that is the way you feel, why don't you get WELCOME tattooed across your back and lie outside your front door when your not spitting out babies or making sammiches?

Doubting Thomas

Whine all you want, but "patriarchy" is going to remain a dirty word and nobody's ever going to force women to live under the thumb of men again. There's a reason you are called "regressives," because you want to take us back 50-100 years or more.

Your vision of a Biblical patriarchy is a pipe dream. You assume that the man will be caring and loving at all times, that he would never beat his wife and children, that he woould never drink away all the money and kust be utterly perfect. Humans are never quite that perfect (according to you) so it will not work out lile you think it will.

Anything Biblical should stay Biblical and in the past. The Bible was written thousands of years ago and while it has some good lessons in it, it is also tied up with completely different values and customs from a very different culture than today. Anything that can be agreed upon to be bad is probably already outlawed. Our views of certain topics have changed.
These are different times and we should embrace that.

if there was abuse, the man was ultimately held responsible before God.

The abusive man had to wait until after he died to get his punishment, then? Really convenient, that. What about the abuse the people living with him had to endure while he was still fucking alive? Were they just supposed to put up with it in hopes he might get his just desserts possibly decades later?

Funny thing, normally, what the world sees as bad, the Bible sees as good.
Yet one more reason to disregard the Bible.

How much is the increase of unemployment in women through that period? More or less than 6%?

We see in Genesis one that God created humans, men and women he created them.
Or, God made a template first and then the real thing. There are many different ways you can look at things, ya know.
The Bible was written by male supremacist goat herders. It’s hardly strange that men play the main part, therefore.
God does not exist, according to scientific evidence. God is created in the goat herders’ image.

Believing in millennium-old fairy tales is childish, immature, arrogant, and sinful. Rejoice that you don’t have to; come join us in the Real World.

Men attack other men, yes. Men are probably even more likely to be the perpetrator of a violent crime, too.
Are men also 40% more likely than women to be the victims of violent rape?

My needs include earning my own income, owning our house jointly, deciding for myself what happens to my body.
Last time I checked, you need to be two to make “little ones”; they are just as much his!
What if the eldest son is just a small child? My grandmother became a widow when my dad was 6 months old; was he supposed to take care of her?

I find “caring protection” to be condescending, not loving.

The 21st century is indeed the opposite of that way. Now, men and women are equal partners, helping each other out because they want to, not because they have to. This woman is pretty happy now, in secular, progressive Sweden, thank you very much.

In so many fairytales, if anything, the scenarios are Matriarchal.

The Grimms' evil queen in "Snow White", to Disney's mid-late 20th Century & early 21st 'Maleficent' in "Snow White, to Princess Celestia in today's "MLP:FiM".

Question: Why didn't your 'God' simply bypass the human element and just 'Poof!' Instant Jesus! That human element being Mary. Even the RCC venerate her, Lil; can you also say 'Mary Magdalene'...?

Your Bible is a fairytale too, therefore...!

Lily (I still think you must be male), Patriarchy has ALWAYS been a loaded word, and women have always been suspicious of that label. It assumes (1) all men are equally well-suited to being leaders, and (2) all women are equally well-suited to being stay-at-home mothers. Now don't be silly. You know damn well that is patently untrue.

Some men are leaders. Some are followers. Some are leaders who abuse that power. Some women are motherly. Some women are not. Some women are good leaders themselves, and not content to be followers. These are FACTS, indisputably. We are human beings. We are not cut out with the same cookie-cutter. I can't think of anything more UN-biblical than to deny the talents of individuals.

I'll keep this simple so you might understand. I do not need anyone to take care of me.

One could say that the entire reason primitive societies focused so much on controlling female sexuality is that they defined themselves along patriarchal descent, and they had to avoid cases of "mama's baby, papa's maybe"

Posts like this remind me of why the only Patriarch I approve of is on my 40K table (yes, I still play a Genestealer Cult army),

Real-life Patriarchy needs to GO...

Also, Elsa, in "Frozen": a Queen.

Lil, Let it Go.

The Sisters of Battle would give Lil aneurysms. >:D

"Under a patriarchal family; all of a woman’s needs are taken care of. She is freed up to take care of her precious little ones, instead of needing to worry about where the next meal will come from."

My mother would like to have a word with you about that. She chose to be a stay at home mother but still worried about where the next meal was going to come from due to the fact that my father is a gambling addict and never left enough money to keep the house running.

Things the Bible sees as good range from harmless to stupefying to the utterly horrifying. Which category are you working from here?

@Anon-e-moose, Kid Cthulu

Eh, the sisters may be badass "bolter bitches" in power armor, but even so, they're still holy, and deeply religious beyond the point of fanaticism, so Lil would still twist their image to somehow fit her arguments. No, what we need is a squad of Slaaneshi Daemonettes. THOSE are some, uh, "women", who would give Lil a heart attack, and possibly her first orgasm. Just don't ask them what they're packing under those loincloths, you're probably better off not knowing. >:D

11/25/2015 6:27:20 PM

This seems to be a well formulated and structured argument. To sad that it's still a load of horsecrap.
