Yes! I can remember him saying that as one of his campaign promises. Word for word.
But, as with most political campaign promises, he's gone and done the opposite. The economy's stronger, unemployment is down. Fuck, what a campaign liar.
I've been thinking about this conservative claim that Obama is deliberately trying to destroy the country. It just doesn't gibe with real life.
I mean, if I were elected president and I really wanted to damage the country as much as possible, I would try to remove health insurance from as many people as possible so that doctor visits would be too expensive for most people. I would foment rabid nationalism and provoke fear of terrorism. I would weaken the already weak gun laws and push for all gun laws to be abolished in the name of 2nd Amendment freedoms, then push for more gun ownership. I would give huge tax breaks to corporations in the name of trickle-down economics (the Brownback plan) and then if revenue falls short raise taxes on the middle class. I would abolish the minimum wage and allow businesses to set wages at will. I would abolish the EPA and relax pollution regulations on all industry. I would abolish the Department of Education. I would push for more religion into government and appoint justices to the Supreme Court who believe there's no wall of separation between church & state in the First Amendment. I would push for all working women to quit their jobs and stay home. I would repeal sex discrimination legislation in order to make it harder for women to work and allow sexual harassment in the workplace so they wouldn't even want to work. Try to pass a Consitutional amendment against gay marriage. Shut down mosques and allow profiling of Muslims in the name of "national security." I would change the PATRIOT act to allow the government to have even more power to spy on American citizens. I would whip up political divisiveness so that half of the country hates the other half. I would restrict women's access to abortion services and/or repeal Roe v. Wade so that the country is filled with a bunch of poor, unwanted children in bad homes. I would end any & all social programs so that people who are poor & desperate would have to turn to crime in order to survive.
Basically, I would be a teabagger.
I don't know his intentions, but his actions are so inept and stupid, that he is hard to believe. He has surpassed not only Jimmy Carter but even James Buchanan as the WORST US PRESIDENT IN HISTORY.
Inviting refugees from terrorist infested Syria into the USA is insane.
His nuclear deal in which Iran inspects it own nuclear sites is beyond comprehension by any intelligent person.
