We Christians have been laying low for too long, but we´re slowly being pushed into militancy by " pseudo- scientists"
like yourselves. True, we did burn down all them "pagan" libraries 2000 years ago and the world was better off for it.
Nothing wrong ´bout fresh starts.

Yes, thank you for setting humanity back a few centuries technologically, philosophically and scientifically. Beginning the Dark Ages in Europe a little later was a nice touch too.
"Nothing wrong 'bout fresh starts"?
In this case, that's tantamount to saying that it's okay for you to kill someone's child, since they can have another, and there's nothing wrong with a fresh start at raising a child.
Destroying the Great Library at Alexandria was one of the greatest crimes against civilization, and against humanity, ever perpetrated.
And I stand by my earlier assessment that this "Ascetic Crusader" person is just an attention-whoring troll, not a true fundie, but acting like one and pushing buttons to get strong reactions. I strongly recommend that we not bother submitting any more of his posts to FSTDT.

The destruction of the Library of Alexandria has been variously dated to Caesar's conquest of the city in 48 BC, to the Christianization in the 4th century, and to the Arabic conquest in AD 642. Truth is, nobody knows when it ceased to exist, and whether it was destroyed in a single conflagration, or if the books were just pilfered away one by one.
The institute to which it belonged, the "Mouseion", continued to operate to the end of the 4th century.

You know, I genuinely don't have much beef with religion, but is there any doubt anymore that people who take it to fundie-extremes are nothing less than a danger to our species? Destroying libraries, knowledge, people! FUN FUN, because after all it's all [best hick voice] PAAAAAAGAAAAANNNNN[/best hick voice].
Bastards. Sometimes, I really wonder how far along we would be today if history had been without the fundie/militant aspect of Christianity's influence.
I've interacted with this guy at CF a couple times. Apart from being a complete screwball, he also treats others like shit. He seems to see an intelligent discussion as a high schoolish "my side vs. yours" engagement, and treats it as such. I stopped bothering with him a while ago.

I´d say the greatest crime was letting Galileo and Copernicus off the hook... Westerners were perfectly OK living in a flat topped , geo-centric Universe until that pair of "saboteurs" came along.

You´ve " interacted " with me ? Who the
hail is this clown ? You must be one of the thousands (yes, literally thousands) of people who have visited my threads at CF and 123CF. I probably blew you away like yesterdays news in some debate... cuz I wouldn´t know you from a sidewalk turd "X Minion"...
catholics, christians, and any other dmeopns of mankind like the above should all do the world a favor and shart shooting themselves until they go to the afterlife they so believe in. Believing one thing is one thing, burning down libraries of others because they don't kiss your ass is flat out wrong, and anyone who dars to follow their footsteps should get sent right next to their other friends burning in hell.

Hey Tak. Modern Science ( an offshoot of Empiricism) is wholly and irrevocably paganistic. In the early days, Christianity was rebuilding Western civilization according to the new tenets of the Christian religion.
The Library of Alexandria was a breeding ground for degenerate paganistic mysteries and heathenistic cults (ie: Hypatia, Neo-Platonism, etc).
Galileo and Copernicus were heirs to this disgusting tradition.
At the time, the Roman authorities allowed the Library to be burned because Empirical paganism became an intolerable burden on Egyptian society.
You can take that to the bank!!!!

Ascetic Crusader, sorry, but that last post had good grammar, perfect spelling and used polysyllabic words.
The down-homey "You can take that to the bank" can't offset what came before.
You're not fooling anybody.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
